I have been using AR, AP & GL since early 2016 and importing Sales Orders and Purchase Order details from a custom program. In December we moved away from that system and added Adagio OE, IC, P.O.'s, CQ, and SA.

We sell goods in US$ to CDN$ customers. In A/R we use Control Accts to differentiate CDN$ and US$ Customers. In addition we also use a ^ at the beginning of the Customer code to indicate it as a US$ Customer.

In our old system...Sales made to US$ Customers were automatically credited to a separate US$ Sales account in the GL.

Luckily in SA our tech guy has been able to break out the US$ sales based on the Customer Code.

The only way I can see now, in Adagio, to 'charge' sales to a different GL account is through the Category Code in IC. Is this correct?

Thank you for any input or ideas!

Suz:

It's never a good idea to do sales analysis by breaking out sales in the Ledger entries.

You have the correct solution, use the Sales Analysis module to break out sales by CAD vs USD customers, either with the ^ in the Customer Code or by using the customers Control Account Code.

You should also have the Multi-currency module to manage the USD conversion for you.

Otherwise, for every USD sale you would have to change the Category Code on every item so that the USD sales go to a different GL Account.

This is the way all accounting software, that I've seen, works. Your Adagio Consultant can help you work through this problem.

To add to Doug's comments:

If you have a small number of SKU's, you can use a different part number of a USD sale than a CAD sale.

The problem with using different SKU's is then managing inventory as each sale to a US customer then requires a Stock Transfer.

More likely this is only practical if you have a very small number of sales with only a few SKU's per sale.
