Is there any way to suppress $0.00 values on an OE specification, and display a blank instead?

Samuel:

Not with the Spec file. You can do this with PrintBoss. Header or Footer is not too difficult, the body is difficult but can be done.

Thanks Doug.
The client is not using PrintBoss, so at this point, we will not be able to do this.

Hi Samuel,

I went looking because I thought we could do this - but apparently it's only available in Invoices.

I've added the suggestion for OrderEntry.

Andrew:

In Invoices blank zero's is not really a spec file solution. In the company profile there is an option to "Text for zero amount" where text can be blank.

This makes all $0 amounts blank for all spec files, there is no option for specific fields to be blank or only specific spec files to have blank amounts.

We have this need frequently based upon some condition, often multijurisdictional taxes, where blank all $0 would not work (we only want to blank the Tax amount when no jurisdiction exists.

If we make this a property of the specification designer on an individual field level, all specifications created with the new designer will not be backward compatible.

Is that acceptable?

Andrew:

For us, we can manage the version control problem so this would be acceptable. On the other hand, I can think of much better things to spend your R&D budget on.

Hello Andrew:

Yes, this option would be useful.
I could see this as an option for numeric fields, where if we select the Properties, and an option for Suppress Zero was available.

If this was based on each field, perhaps this would satisfy Doug's needs as well.
(And just maybe, this would not involve a ton of R&D on your part to put this in place.)

Hi Sam,

Yes - but it would mean that specifications edited/created with the new Designer would not be backward compatible.

Is that acceptable?

Not backward compatible?
Then it would be a new feature starting with 9.3, I imagine.
Fine - it would certainly be better than not having the feature at all, as is currently the case.
And I imagine that this would encourage upgrades for those users who would like to implement the feature.

It means that if you edited a customer's specification with this Designer, and they were running an older version of Adagio, you would "break" their specification. You would have to make sure that you only edited a Specification with the version they were using.

Hi,

As Doug has alluded to, there are continuous functional benefits to using PrintBoss for specifications in Order Entry. It still amazes us, why users and many Adagio consultants continue to quote and install Order Entry without automatically considering PrintBoss as a requirement for the solution. Just include it in your quotation or add into an existing site location.

Best practices for an Adagio Order Entry solution always include PrintBoss. It means if you are doing distribution installations, you will have to invest some time to learn and understand the PrintBoss configuration, but you are installing a solution not just installing software. It's no different than Order Entry always needing Gridview, if you are installing a solution.

A little investment in getting training for both these products, reaps huge consulting revenue for Adagio Consultants and increases the likelihood of client satisfaction with the installed solution. And you have an immediate answer for just about any forms or printing issue in Adagio going forward.

Best,
Brian

Brian:

I agree with you that it would benefit us to learn about PrintBoss and how it can enhance our Adagio installations,

What is the possibility that you could devote half an hour or an hour, discussing and demoing to us dealers various ways that you use PrintBoss with Adagio?
(Notwithstanding that I know you usually have a number of things on the go, and that you typically do not have tons of idle time at your disposal.)

A Print Boss session would be a good presentation for the dealer track at AOC.

Hello Sam,

For Adagio OrderEntry 9.3A (2017.12.04), in the Designer, there is a new property for Amount Specification codes: Blank on zero.
