I visited a prospect recently.
They are asking if the AR module can generate auto-numbers for the Customers?
We were wondering if for example, we were to start with Cust # 100001 and increment the # for each new Customer.

Samuel:

Adagio does not have that function and to be honest with you, sequential customer numbers are very difficult to work with.

Why does your prospect want this feature?

They are non-profit and most of the Customers are actually Donors, contributing donations to the organization.
I expect that if they go forward with Adagio, the majority of the Customers will be imported into the AR on a on-going basis and not entered directly.

Hi Sam,

It's not about the entry - it's about being able to find the customer/donor again. It's pretty easy to generate a customer code from the first letters of the name. And if there is a collision, then someone should be checking to see whether the customer is the same or not.

Sequential numbering is a terrible idea.

The Toolkit for Adagio provides a function for generating customer or vendor codes from the name. Alternatively, codes can also be converted to a numeric sequence. With a few clicks they can convert them all.

F6 on Company Name is quite fast and reduces the need for logically ordered customer numbers. I'm sure auto numbering could be implemented fairly easily but SOFzzz DownArrow could easily locate the next available customer number that could be entered manually. SOF... DownArrow will position the customer search at the beginning of the sequence so the user can easily select to desired customer.

JobTracker can auto increment the job number and customer names do not have to exist in receivables or the default customer number can be used. The job can be placed on a recurrence schedule so that it can be recurred on the specified interval. The recurrence can then be invoiced with CounterSales, Adagio Invoices or Adagio Order Entry. If a recurrence notice is sent out and a payment is received, the job could be changed to complete without generating an invoice and the payment simply entered to receivables. The WIP report will list all jobs that haven't paid(still active) and allow for followup.

Could be a solution Sam, give me a call if you would like to explore this as an option.
Regards,
