Hi,

From a First view results, is there a way to create a new second view and query from the first views result?

Example: First view result have LY's sales details.
On the second view, I want to get let's just say March of
LY's sales from the first view.

Basically using the First view as my table for the second view. Is that possible?

Yes.

ExcelDirect the first View, then create a GridView View on the resulting Workbook.

This is an excellent way to process large SalesAnalysis databases.

Hi Andrew,

That is what I was trying to avoid. To export it first and then run another view from it. I can see that there will be an extra step if I want to update the first view (excel direct).

Would this be something that can be added in the future GridView release? Using the one view to be the table of the other view?

What would change last year's sales details?

Nothing really. I just want the report to be dynamic.

Let's say today, I want to run 2014 sales, and then later 2015 and then so on...
With your solution, I'll have to have 2014 spreadsheet and then 2015 Spreadsheet and so on... To use the 2014, I have to switch the views to look at 2014 spreadsheet. And switch again for the 2015.

The solution I have in mind is that the primary view will get the data directly from Adagio Tables which have tons of records. Using the primary views result (from tons of record to a constricted records), generate another view. My thought on this is that I'm trying to save the time from reading the whole table from Adagio just to get the second view.

Does it make sense?

Marlon:

Using one View to extract data for another View to read can be automated but maybe you just need to cleanup your data or how you are accessing it to speed up the process.

Which module are you using for this report? Version?
How far back does the history go?
How many records per year?

Douglas:

Adagio Order Entry 9.2A (160707), historical data.
Clean data is really ideal.
1.7M+ records, 8 years worth
200k+ per year average

I know you folks are trying to find a solution to this one specific example that I have and thank you for that.

But I think that being able to use a view as a table can be useful in some other ways too. Of course, I can't think of anything right now.

Anyway, I appreciate your input.

Marlon

Hi Marlon,

Just as you can use an Excel Workbook as a data source, you can also use an GridView View as a source as well. You just have to save the data with the View.

However, it can take a while to load a big View too - nothing comes for free.

If you want a systematic approach to this, create a View with the lowest level of detail you need. The create progressively higher summarized Views of the same data - daily, monthly, quarterly, yearly. Have a set of Views that only refresh the current month data.

Append the current month to the other tables when you want to see the whole current data set.

You might also find that processing this data from the SalesAnalysis transaction table is faster, as it is already partly normalized. Sometimes the SalesAnalysis Statistics table has the data you need, and it only contains one record for each day.

Hi Marlon,

If you are running the current version of Adagio GridView, and if from the Edit / Defaults screen you have selected the option to 'Include External Tables', this can include selecting a previously saved GridView view as the source of a new view, choosing the view name in exactly the same way as selecting a table.

You have to save this 'source' view in the same directory as the data, and I believe you have to save the view with data.

You can also read all the data in one view and put them in different columns depending on the date.
