I'm having a performance issue with a couple of clients running Adagio from workstations. One in particular has a fairly large database and a lot of horespower on the workstation, including 1G RAM, 1G n/w switch and NIC. Using a P4-266 processor. As suggested by a collegue, all anti-virus protection on the workstation and server are turned off. When doing an inventory search, the time to search is 3 - 4 times as long as it takes doing the same search directly on the server.

Any suggestions as to where the 'bottleneck' would be?

Thanks,
Lars

Hi Lars,

The most common 'bottleneck' is the server connection to the workstation - it's often way faster to access data 'locally' than to the network. If you copied the data to the C drive and performed the same steps (likely similar to the test mentioned by working directly on the server), you will notice a significant saving in processing time.

So things to look at are the hubs and switches and cards being 100MB/sec rather than 10 - any one can get in the way. Also remember that you can never get data access over the network to have comparable performance than local data access.

Hello Lars,

Just a note that you'll never get the same performance on a workstation as you would get on a server, because data can be cached on a server, but must be retrieved to the workstation (in case it has changed). This is one of the issues that GridView Server addresses.
