Do any construction companies out there use the Adagio job cost module? We have a development firm and are starting to build more homes and thought this might be an option to help us manage the 4-5 construction projects we have going on at anyone time. We currently use Adagio and really like it so if anyone out there has some experience using Adagio modules for home construction any feedback would be appreciated.

Hi Michael

I am a reseller/consultant, with many construction clients using Adagio JobCost. In fact, my father was a home builder (about 100 homes a year) and he was my first "client", so it's a specialty of mine. It works nicely.

What it doesn't do well is integrate with an estimating system, or print AIA bills (but you are in Canada so maybe that doesn't matter). What it does particularly well, in conjunction with Adagio PurchaseOrders, is warn you if you try to enter an invoice that causes the actual to exceed contract. It also handles integration to the GL very well, whether you want to recognize revenue as a percent of completion or once a job is fully complete. The standard reports aren't very good, but the data itself is well structured, so I use Adagio GridView to create reports that are exactly what my clients want.

Hi,
We concur with Steve. We also have many clients using Adagio Job Cost for general contacting (commercial) and domestic construction, Job Shop manufacturing, and landscaping maintenance. Job Cost can really work well but the proper configuration scares many off from a really good solution, unfortunately.

There are multiple ways to configure and we have seen numerous bad configurations, so make sure that your consultant knows how to configure properly. And don't be scared off by comments that it doesn't work, because in responding to sites that say it doesn't work, it's almost always a configuration issue.

The reports have room for improvement, the estimating simply records estimate values instead of creating an estimate document, and change order control has more room for improvements, but the data stored in the data base, is readily accessible and very useful for Gridview and Crystal Reports.

You might also consider our Link2JobCost Add-On as an efficient solution to manage your WIP, which is usually an issue in most Job Cost sites.

If you go with Job Cost, you must consider Adagio Purchase Orders, Gridview and possibly Crystal reports for Adagio. If you don't get PO's and GV, then you will feel shortchanged with your solution. It's that important.

Best,
Brian

Michael:

There are a number of Adagio consultants, including ourselves, with extensive experience with Adagio Job Cost. Job Cost is a significantly complex module to implement and use. Though members of this forum, possibly including some Job Cost end users but that is very rare, might be able to answer specific questions you ask it would be nearly impossible for someone on this forum to assist you with getting Job Cost working for your organization (its just too big a task for the forum). Please keep in mind that the responders on this forum are volunteering their time, there is a limit to how much time someone will be willing to volunteer.

If you have a specific questions please ask it and we will attempt to answer. If you need assistance with the broader problem of how to setup and use Job Cost then please considered asking your Adagio Consultant for assistance.

Do you realize you are responding to a post from 3 years ago?

I have a feeling Lemek doesn't know what he's talking about (read his other posts) and I have no idea why he decided to pull up a three year old thread.

Steve:

I only looked a the date of the last post and assumed the whole this was current.

Now that you mention it I do recall that Lemek reactivates old posts for reasons unknown. I agree that there doesn't appear to be anything meaningful added by this individual, either this thread or the other responses posted.

Hi Michael,
We are also in a real estate firm. We utilize both Adagio and cloud-based free accounting software Akounto. We utilize the two of them at a time. I am familiar with Adagio when I was working. But with this option, it does seem expensive.
