Good morning,
Since Monday, my client has been having issues with printing reports of any type from Adagio.

This is from her email, describing the problem:

>> The printer status sometimes says “error printing” port 192.168.42.26 other times it just says printing but nothing happens.

When I click print, it will say preparing to print. When it won’t print, says loading print engine.

When I restart the computer, the journals begin to print once control alt delete is on the screen. Once I log in, I can print a new report but only one before it happens all over again.

When I was printing the committed cost sheets – there was a long pause before they print, but they will print without restarting the computer.

I can print anything from my email, excel and word without any of this happening.<<

Her workstation is Windows 7

Adagio Versions:
AP 9.2.A 160524
GL 9.2B 160516
JC 9.2A 160126
AR 9.2A 160226
Invoices 9.2A 160507

The printer is an old Dell, model 1720.

As always, thanks in advance,
Carol

Carol:

Is Adagio and data on the local machine or is this a multi-user network? Do other users have the same problem.

Just because Word and Excel work fine doesn't mean that Adagio is the problem. I'll bet these printouts are processing less than 1% of the data that Adagio is processing.

How old is old and how much money does your client want to spend troubleshooting a hardware issue on an old computer.

My recommendation: If the computer is over 4 years old (Dell Inspiron 1720's where on the market in 2007) then it had reached he end of its useful life and should be replaced. Almost always this fixes the problem. If after replacement the problem still exists then more time can be spent troubleshooting the problem.

Doug,
It is not an old Dell PC -- it is an old printer.

Adagio is installed on a network but there is only one user, and, of course, she runs the software from her workstation.

Thanks,
Carol

Is the printer locally connected or a shared network printer? Can you print to it from Adagio from any other connected workstation? Can you print File | User Preferences? Can you print a Company Profile?

Fundamentally, what has changed between the period that they COULD print to this printer and the current situation?

This could be an issue created by a Windows Update. Recently, there has been a change in the way windows manages the print spool. Check if there has been Windows Updates on that computer. They may need to be rolled back. This issue doesn't happen with all the printers.

Exactly, what report were you trying to print? With which parameters?
