We need more optional string fields in IC and optional check boxes would be very helpful. Can you provide?

Why is it so hard to add more optional fields? We are in distribution so Inventory Control is essential. We need more fields to sort our product. We have over 10,000 items and launching an e-commerce site. We are using all available fields in IC already.

Any changes to Inventory require Service Packs to all the modules that read the Item master. That would be: - OrderEntry
- PurchaseOrders
- Invoices
- SalesAnalysis
- SalesCQ
Also, usually people want to do something with the data they are adding. - Place the field on a PurchaseOrder or an Order, Invoice or Credit Note
- Send the field to SalesAnalysis, Receivables or the General Ledger
- Print it on a report, or sort or subtotal on the field
- Import or Export the field
- Do math or a calculation on the field value
To the extent that others in the community may want to store similar information, these fields should be made part of the Inventory database, and not just added as Optional Fields.

Right now you're not doing anything in IC? No more optional fields and no fields to made part of the inventory database?

The majority of businesses selling product in this day and age have or will be getting an e-commerce online store. Adagio IC needs to catch up by providing us with more fields to manage and sort product. An e-commerce tab on IC items would be ideal where we can store and synchronize with an online store.
Here are a few examples of e-com fields we need:
• attribute_set • category_ids • Name • image / small_image / thumbnail • url_key / url_path • manufacturer • Color • Category specific attributes • long_description • short_description • product_name
Thankfully Brian Stief is able to customize a table to make this happen, but ideally, IC could use a lot of improvements to help businesses manage their inventory.

Hello Susan, Here's how I would map your list with the current fields in Inventory: - attribute_set - I don't really know what an "attribute set" is, but perhaps a Report Group could be used to group like items together.
- category_ids - We support unlimited Category codes
- Name - Item description
- image / small_image / thumbnail - We support a single image. A naming convention (such as appending "thumb" to the name would provide the rest
- url_key / url_path - An optional field
- manufacturer - An optional field
- Color - Either an item segment or an optional field
- Category specific attributes - I don't understand the type of information that would be stored here and what the relationship is to the item accounting for the item
- long_description - Item notes, perhaps with a specific user id
- short_description - Additional comments. 4 x 75 character fields in each item
- product_name - Item description
External systems will always have item data that they are looking for. An alternative mapping is to take the fields in the external system and map them to the necessary information needed in Adagio Inventory. Then, the addition of an item in the external system results in a new item being imported into Adagio Inventory. Defining these relationships is the role of your Adagio Consultant. It's one of the services they offer.

Hi Andrew,
Our Adagio consultant has already defined the relationships and is managing all of this for us. This is merely an example of fields needed to integrate to an e-commerce site. My point is that Adagio IC could use some advancements to help businesses manage their inventory. After all these years, we still have to use 2 windows in IC, one for editing and 1 for viewing and having to continually search item codes twice to accomplish simple tasks. We maxed out our optional fields years ago. Adagio has done well with PO and now adding RMA is encouraging, but IC has been left in the dust! When will we see some improvements?
