I did Day End & Month end for Order Entry. The cost for one of the stock items was incorrect. Our Inventory showed correct pricing per each item but in Sales History it also showed the error that Order Entry had. I inquired the HELP in Adagio and it states that once Data is set up in the system it will track the info for us and that we shouldn't need to edit except in special circumstances. It will let me do this in Inventory but will it mess up our ongoing totals? Any advise would be appreciated. Jo

Hi Jo

Your question is very unclear. Can you try again?

I don't know if this is what you are asking, but you can edit the cost of a SalesAnalysis transaction without any effect on the other modules (such as Inventory or Ledger).

There is no such thing as Month-end in OrderEntry. If you want to tell us what you did exactly that you consider a month-end step, that might be helpful.

If you don't think you can ask any clearer, you might be better off contacting your Adagio consultant and showing him/her the problem.

Steve

Hello - What I meant by OE Month End was the reports we process at the end of each month that has the grand totals for our taxes etc...We then retrieve the month we're working on into our General Ledger. I know we can change totals in Sales Analysis and General Ledger. The problem is with Inventory showing incorrect "Cost" totals for some reason. I've tried to attached some pictures so you can see what is happening with our software, but was unsuccessful in doing so. I'll contact our Vendor to see if they can come up with a solution. Thank you Jo

I called Jobette, and the issue is that somehow someone appears to have set up one of their Inventory Control Account Sets to use FIFO inventory Costing.

Bad Move.

She is going to correct and change back to moving average for any stocking unit control account sets. Changing back to moving average can be done on the fly and then she can make the necessary costing adjustments to correct the FIFO processing errors.

This is not intended to be a discussion point for why I would normally request that all clients use moving average for their inventory control account sets instead of FIFO, but FIFO has created more costing errors because it needs more administrative attention than the benefit that FIFO is intended to derive. Anyone using the concept of just in time inventory should not be using FIFO. FIFO was a valid costing method when I was doing audits 35 years ago, when clients had oodles of inventory and no one considered inventory turnover ratios.

This is just best practice advice from a CPA and an experience Accounting Systems integrator. We have seen far to many errors created by posting adjustments to the wrong FIFO cost pool with periodic adjustments, that come back to bite with costing errors in Order Entry. Anyone still using FIFO should consider the benefits of moving average.

If you are unsure on how to correct or not confident on how to change your costing method to moving average, please contact your consultant. It will be the best money value you have ever spent.

Best,
Brian
