Hi All,

A client recently changed their fiscal calendar from Jan - Dec which changed in 2015, to Oct - Sept. This means that the 2016 year is now Oct - Sept. As you may realize it means that one year is now shorter than all the rest and before the system will full reflect the change the first year with the new periods will need to be closed.

The problem is the client wants to show a comparison based on the Month rather than the period. For instance Oct would now be the first period where as it was the 10th period in 2014. I thought that there would be a way to show in her comparative statement Oct 2015 and Oct 2014. However I can't seem to get it sorted. I am pretty sure I am doing something wrong, but I hoped you could compare more than two years side by side.

Attached is a pic of what I am experiencing. I tried to manipulate the system but it is obviously not working.

Please Help.

Hi Ishana,

Firstly, I'd suggest adding the fiscal period start and end dates to the specification so that you can verify that you are choosing the values you need. The spec code "[10]M" always chooses the 10th month, regardless of the fiscal period chosen from the tool bar. "_[10]M" chooses the period 10 periods ago. Using "[10]M" the figures displayed on the drill down will not change, since you are always choosing the same period.

While you are dealing with the short year, you will need a formula to build the correct code, adding a numeric offset to the fiscal period chosen from the toolbar.

Let me know if you'd like help building the formula.

What you are trying to accomplish is completely doable.
