A client ran DataCare 9.1A (140219) and it found 4 errors in the OE Sales Order file, which it fixed. But the log doesn't detail which orders/invoices and they are afraid it might have fixed the orders by deleting the order details.

I believe that when you run DIC it DOES detail which order/invoices are fixed.

Is there a difference in the detail level of the error log between DataCare and DIC? If so, why?

Thanks

Steve

They might have been file errors rather than application errors. If that was the case, DC and OE would not indicate which orders/inv/cn had problems. For the most part, DC should display when is displayed by the app. DC does have the ability to show the results in summary or detail. I believe it still retains the full detail.

Thanks Bob. Steve was asking on my behalf, and yes the errors were in the File Integrity section of the check. The results are attached in a txt file.
So if they were File Integrity errors, we won't get document/line item level detail for the errors? We just want to be sure we don't have invoices missing items, etc. Thanks.

File integrity errors indicate a structural problem with the file. It could be the result of a hardware failure, power failure or some unexpected multi-user scenario. The Data Integrity Checker will correct these types of problems with a rebuild but there's a risk of data loss. Re-running the DIC will confirm that the errors are fixed. Application errors (the second part of the run) will check documents and let you know if something doesn't look right. Of course, your Adagio Dealer should be consulted before you rebuild or restore your data.

I don't think anyone has yet answered my question, so I will ask it again:

Is there a difference in the detail level of the error log between DataCare and DIC? If so, why?

I'm not looking for an in-depth explanation of why errors occur.

Thanks

Steve

After rebuilding file errors, it is best practice to run a check again. The application errors usually show up in the second run.

It is my understanding that "more detail" may be available in xxWINERR.xxx
