I first did a search on the Forum, and I checked the Compatibility, but I have not found a definite answer yet.

A client is planning to replace an aging server with a new server running the operating system of Windows 2012 Essentials, on an IBM Express x3550 Xeon machine.

My question: Will the operating system (and this computer) be "friendly" with Adagio?

Anyone have experience with this system?

No one responded to this question.
We decided to go ahead with the new operating system, and hopefully we will have no problems with installing and getting Adagio running on the new server.
We have ordered the unit and it will be available later in January.
I will post the results of this.

Hi Sam,

One of our very large clients has just installed a Windows Server 2012 R2 as a private cloud install with an RDP connection for all (some) 100 concurrent Adagio users, and is being used primarily for Adagio. Our Adagio site is working great (beyond incredibly fast) but required planning to ensure that this was a good solution. Probably more than you will get from this forum. (no offense to the valued responders and readers).

Our site has been configured with sufficient RAM, and sufficient Cores to meet and exceed the requirements of Adagio and other defined applications, based upon our analysis and our contracted experts.

We didn't respond because we didn't know what Windows 2012 Essentials was? Windows Essentials is often identified as the Microsoft low end Antivirus solution that should not be used with Adagio on any networks.

Replacing an existing server with Windows 2012 Essentials, on an IBM box? Sorry but we are not that close to the buzz words of the hardware and networks to offer constructive comments or advice, without more details and costs. There are a lot of issues that need to be addressed if you are looking at replacing a server, and best discussed concurrently with hardware and Adagio experts.

We hope you have no problems installing and operating Adagio on the new server.

Best,
Brian

Hello Samuel:
In terms of hardware, I would say that any brand-name server released in the past couple of years is easily capable of running Adagio in a LAN deployment. In that environment, the bottlenect is often any older workstations. If the deployment is RDP, you have to pay more attention to server RAM, processors and drives; same if there are other applications running on the same server. And if there is the possibiity of 100 concurrent Adagio users as in Brian's case, you REALLY need to pay attention to those specifications.

I even have a client with 5 or 6 concurrent Adagio users successfully running on a NAS drive, which isn't even a true server.

As for Windows Server 2012, the compatibility page still only refers to Server 2008 as you pointed out. I believe that is more of an indication that Softrak hasn't been able to test thoroughly more than it is an indication of a problem. I have a client who replaced their server with one running Windows Server 2012 (they didn't ask). It's still early but I don't expect any problems. I'll bet that most Adagio dealers have at least one Windows 2012 site.

We've been running Adagio with Server 2012 for almost a year now without issues. My understanding is that Server 2012 Essentials is just standard Server 2012 with a built-in 25-user limit (no need for client licenses.)

Thanks to all for the replies.

We are planning (hoping) that the installation and migration will be successful.
