Expected Ship Date - Order Entry

The expected ship date is uneditable in invoices. Would it be possible to edit the field in Gridview-RW, and if so, would it cause stability problems?
Thanks
(A request to have this date field default to the login date the same as all the other date fields do.)

Hi Steve - Thanks
Doug
No, just want to be able to change the expected ship date. For your information, we only enter the actual ship date. We use the expected ship date as the actual ship date because the actual ship date always defaults to the login date when the order is opened. So if I entered an order, including dates, and then had to save it - to check a price for instance - when the order was re-opened the actual ship date reverts to the login date. Too easy to forget to change it. Also, we rarely have to go to the Totals tab so it's much quicker to stay on the header screen and use the expected ship date for data entry.
I have everyone set the login date to the month they are entering orders and invoices for, so that it is quicker to enter just the day rather than the month and day (there is less likelihood of date errors being made then). This works great except that the expected ship date defaults to the system date, so that with a login date of 11/29/2013, 29 shows as 11/29/2013 in the order date but 12/29/2013 in the expected ship date. I run a report that shows days to ship and days to invoice. We were behind and in the rush to get caught up, a number of orders and invoices where entered with the expected ship date being in December. If it had been one or two I wouldn't worry, but there where close to 30 invoices, which will really screw up the report. I was thinking of permanently changing the date errors but after thinking about it last night, I think I'll just create a calculated column in Gridview to handle the problem in the future. I would like to know why that field is the only one that defaults to the system date, though.
Thanks

You're right Doug, but if you enter just a day it fills in the system month, not the login month i.e. System Date = 12/03/2013; Login Date: 11/29/2013 Order Date will show as 11/29/2013 (good) and expected ship date will be blank. Enter 25 in the order date and you get 11/25/2013; enter it in the expected ship date and you get 12/25/2013, so the expected ship date must be referencing the system date, not the login date as the other date fields do.

Hi Mike,
The difference in behaviour is because the expected ship date has no previously entered date (it's blank). The date control picks up the month/year of the previous contents of the field when only the day is typed. If there is nothing in the field, a date must be chosen, and the system date is the only one available to the control.
Perhaps we should default the expected ship date to the order date? If you visit the field, that's what the program will do.

That would be great. Normally it isn't a problem until the end of the month. Then things get rushed and people (me) aren't paying as much attention. Thanks
