Good day to you all,

We use Crystal Reports in house and are looking to slightly alter some of the management reports.

I have managed to open a report and make the small change I need but Adagio does not see the changed report. I have tried saving it version 7.00 as well to no avail.

Is there another piece or trick I need to know in order to move forward.

Thank you and,

Cheers, JK

What version of Crystal Reports are you using? If it's not 8.5B, then you won't see the report under Reports | Custom Reports on a Windows 7 machine.

Hi Steve,

Thank you for your reply.

I can open and edit the report in CR85 w/o a problem - I can save them and there is no problem doing that.

We are running 8.5.0.217.

I assumed that one could edit one of the reports in the StandardRP folder and that would be it...

I have the developper edition so, could compile etc...

Thank you for your reply.

Cheers, JK

John:
This is a bit more involved than it seems on the surface. First Crystal 8.5 will work with the standard Adagio reports but you have to be very careful to not use any features introduced into Crystal after version 7.0. This is because most modules use the Crystal 7.0 runtime engine (GL and 1 or 2 modules use 8.5).

Secondly, Softrak sells Crystal Reports for Adagio. That is the version number that Steve is referencing. It sounds as if you simply have Crystal, not Crystal Reports for Adagio. You can still edit cosmetic things but you can't open the data tables without the Adagio component.

Your plan should work as long as the changes fit within the constraints of version 7 and don't require opening data tables during design. There are sometimes several RPT files assigned to 1 Adagio report option to accommodate different user options. Maybe you are changing the wrong one.

Finally, good practice is that you shouldn't change the reports in the StandardRP folder. The next time that you install a new version, it would overwrite the enhanced report. Instead create a folder named ModRP (ie. \Softrak\APWIN\ModRP) and put the report into that folder. Then when Adagio runs, it looks into that folder first.

Hi John

If you are in doubt as to the report name, preview the report in Adagio and then attempt to export the previewed report to file (the envelope button). The default name it uses when trying to export is the report you want to copy to ModRP and tweak.

Good day gentlemen,

This is very helpful - thank you.

I only need to make cosmetic header changes to the reports that will identify the report type so this should be doable with the tools I have at hand mind you this does indeed raise the interest in the "for Adagio" version since connectivity to the tables is supported ...

Thank you for the "ModRP" folder information and the fact that I need to export the report.

In the hope of altering the "Adagio Invoices Posting Journal" I have altered "qipdoc.rpt" and exported it as a version 7.00 to the ModRP folder but the modification does not show.

I also dumped acopy in the StandardRP folder... natta..

Any ideas?

As always, thank you and,

Cheers, JK

Hi JohnK

You shouldn't be touching anything in the StandardRP folder.

The Adagio Invoices Post Journal is called QIPDOC.RPT, QIPDATE,RPT or QIPCUST.RPT depending on the sort order you select when you print it (document, date or customer) - that's the report you'll want to copy to the ModRP and work on.

Hi Steve,

Great and thank you - I have restored all those files to original (I backed them up first) and will work in the ModRP report area.

I will post up as I fall over or even better, move forward.

Again and as always, thank you!

Cheers, JK
