We are running AP 8.1D (120814), GL 9.0D(111007), AR 9.0C (120224), INV 9.0B(111102) and Multicurrency 8.1B(110311). My computer acts as the server and we have 2 work stations. We run Windows XP and it is kept up to date.

Intermittently (perhaps 50% of the time), when one of the work stations opens AP it is slow to open (perhaps 30 seconds to a minute). This has escalated recently and this morning it took 10 minutes (literally, we timed it) to open. Specifically, when we click on the AP icon, the Adagio Payables Logo window opens and it is this window that hangs up for the 10 minutes before progressing to the "Open Adagio Payables Data" screen where the date and datapath are selected. This only occurs on the workstations. My computer (the server) has never hung up. This also started fairly recently (perhaps 2 months ago). It is not the antivirus. We are running Microsoft Security Essentials, which we removed but the problem remained. AP is the only module that this occurs on. All the others take the usual 2 seconds to open. Hopefully you have some suggestions!

Hi, Barry,

When you say you 'removed' the antivirus software, do you mean you uninstalled it from the workstations or that you temporarily disabled it. Antivirus software often contain redirectors and disabling them doesn't provide an accurate enough test of whether or not it is the culprit.

Barry:

If this just started happening 2 months ago, then what changed at that time? Something must account for this issue.

It would not be our recommendation to run Adagio in a peer to peer with one workstation doing double duty (as a server and a workstation). It may be that recent upgrades to Adagio has caused you to have reached the point where your peer to peer is no longer adequate for your needs.

Hi Barry,

Is it slow to open on the "Server" or on a workstation? How much memory is on the server? Perhaps Windows is running out of memory (do you have Outlook open?) and has to start swapping things to disk to make room for Adagio.

To reply to the questions asked above:
1. We only uninstalled Microsoft essentials on the server. Perhaps we should also do it on the workstations?
2. Adagio is only slow on the 2 workstations. And it is only slow in payables; all other modules open immediately. And, as noted previously, it is only slow intermittently.
3. The CPU usage is only a couple of percent and our high tech guru says it is absolutely not the issue.

Barry:

Microsoft Essentials has been a big cause of issues for the past two months. Try uninstalling it on the workstations.

We removed Microsoft Security Essentials from the two workstations and the payables module is now opening promptly on both workstations. That was definitely the problem. Thanks Doug.
