We just launched Adagio on a new server and users are complaining that when the print an invoice from OE 8.1E (111215) to an alternate printer, that the next time they print, it does not return to their default printer. It prints again to the last printer they printed to. Where is the setting to stop this?

How do the users change the printer to the alternate printer? Do they visit the File / Workstation Options, or do they click the Setup button while they are on the Print Invoice screen?

If they change via the Workstation Options, this changes the default from the old printer to the new printer, and saves the change in the Windows registry. Their old default printer is no longer the default. This is not the correct method of redirecting a one-off print job to a different printer.

If they change via the Setup button, this should not make any changes to the Windows registry and the default printer setup for a particular specification. I could not replicate a problem when using the Setup to redirect printing invoices to a different printer - the Workstation Options default remained unchanged and printing another invoice correctly chose the original printer.

Please let us know in the case they use the Setup button to print an invoice (or other document type or a report), if they then open File / Workstation Options, has the default printer changed there?

Is the new server a Terminal Server?

Okay so it's actually Picking Lists they are having a problem with. They normally just click Print and it goes to their default printer. On occasion they want to print to another printer and so they go to setup and change to another printer. The next time they go to print a Picking List for another customer they just click print assuming it will print on their default printer but it doesn't. They have to go to setup again and manually change it back to their default printer.

The workstation options remain unchanged as "default printer" for Picking List.

Thanks for the update. The way you describe it should be the way it works - Setup is used for one-off destination re-direction.

I cannot replicate a problem with Pick Slips either - Setup does not affect the destination of the printed Pick Slip for me. Whether the 'default printer' option or a 'specific printer' is set in Workstation Options, printing the 2nd pick slip defaults to whatever is set there, and not the printer chosen from the previous pick slip Setup. Granted, I am checking with a local installation of Adagio, but that shouldn't matter since the printer destination is stored locally in the Windows registry.

I can replicate the problem easily just by highlighting an order by clicking on it and clicking the Picking Slips button on the right. The printer is set to the default Printer. Then I go to Setup and change to another printer. Then click Preview and Close. Select another Order and click Picking Slips and the destination comes up as the secondary printer rather than the default. Changing the Workstation Options to a specific printer does not resolve the issue.

There have been at least 2 Hot Fixes released this spring for 8.1E. One of the changes is described as follows: "In OrderEntry 8.1E (2011.12.15) the specific printer setting for Picking Slips was not respected". Hot Fix dates were 2012-05-11 and 2012-06-12. I suggest asking Don for the Hot Fix and seeing if that solves the problem.
