For a few years, we have been exporting our Adagio Customer database and importing it into Purolator to create a database of our customers to ship to. Recently Purolator updated their system and importing has become more difficult. Adagio AR uses Address Line 1, 2 & 3, however, Purolator wants to import it as Street#, Street# Suffix, Street Name, Street Type, Street Direction, all as separate fields. It would take an exorbitant amount of time to rearrange all of our customers addresses to make this work and even more difficult it would be to keep our customer database in Adagio consistent going forward so that we can import it into Purolator. Any suggestions/ideas on a better way to accomplish this? We don't have time to maintain 2 databases. Thanks.

Is it worthwhile asking Purolator to "get real"? Really, normalizing addresses by them makes way more sense than every one of their clients having to go through this process. You could at least ask them if they have any tools to normalize addresses in this way (and they should, since they're owned by the Cananada Post). This type of "parsing" out of an address line can actually be done using GridView, if the incoming addresses are well formed.

Funny, I just talked to Purolator and they think Adagio address lines should be broken up the same way as theirs. :-| I'm pretty sure they're not interested in my opinion, but I'll try to convince them and/or find a solution.

I wonder why they think that? Completely separate fields for every possible address element makes them virtually impossible to read.

Ask your contact at Purlator about the ESS format, which does not require that the fields be broken out.
It is a CSV format with the following that I am quite certain could be easily built with GridView. Add a couple of addresses manually and the use their Export tool to export as ESS format
Country Customer Code Attention To Company/Name Address 1 Address 2 Address 3 City/Town State/Province Postal/Zip Code Phone Number Extension Fax Number E-mail Government ID Carrier Account# Cost Center Serial Number Asset Number Make Type Reference5 Notes Category/Other Address Type Is Locked Group ID Group Name Group Description

This is working now. We have to be very specific and consistent with what we put in AR fields but as long as we do that, it works great. Thanks.

Hi Susan,
In our Link2 Systems company, we have a product module called Ship2Link, that links directly into Purolator's shipping system. We have installed sites with multiple 3rd Party shipping interfaces including Purolator. We don't break down into the detail you have initially said is required because our contact at Purolator, also gave us the ESS spec requirement.
If you are looking for an efficient link to Purolator, or to CanPar, or to UPS, or to many other 3rd party carriers, you can buy from your Adagio dealer and install Ship2Link for $2500 plus $500 annual maintenance.
And then you could have an integrated link that pulls names, addresses (formatted shipping details), and item details (if necessary) directly from Adagio Order Entry. And Ship2Link writes back the tracking numbers, the shipping date details back to your Adagio Orders so that your customer Invoices, include tracking numbers and shipment dates.
Let us know if you need more details. This solution has been installed for over 3 years and works with both OE 8.1 linked to AR 8.1 or AR 9.0.
And if you need one link higher, we also have a link that goes directly to your customs broker for export and import shipments, including all of the required export/import forms documentation.
Best, Brian
