Hello,

I'm just getting an understanding of Account Data and .ColSpec. What is the difference between the account codes "BALY" and "Y". When would it be desirable to use one over the other?

Thanks

Jim

Hi Jim

There is no "BALY" spec code. If you mean "BAL", then "BAL" and "Y" are the same for income and expense accounts, but for balance sheet accounts "BAL" returns the current balance, and "Y" returns the net activity for the year.

If you mean "BAL_Y", they are completely different.

In Financial Reporter, click on View | Account Data. You will see a list of all spec codes. The ones under "Account Balance As Of" should be used with balance sheet accounts; the ones under "Cur. Yr. Net Change in Balance" should be used with income and expense accounts.

Thanks Steve,

Also, I am trying to make the Retained Earnings portion of the balance sheet to work with formulas.

Currently, we have a line for "opening retained earnings", and below it a line for current net income. We have to manually enter the net income value each month.

How can I set this up the right way, where the retained earnings includes the net income of the current period?

Thanks

Jim

Hi Jim

That goes beyond what I'm able to answer on a support forum. I would have to see the spec.

You should consult with your Adagio consultant at this point.

Your "net income of the current period" is the sum of all your Income/Expense Accounts.

For example:

.Range | 4000:9999-` | Period | -ADGET("GLDATA.M",$RowCol)

.Range | 4000:9999-` | Year | -ADGET("GLDATA.Y",$RowCol)
