Is there any way to import new department codes and descriptions we currently have in Excel?

In the G/L look at File | Import | Departments

Are you also trying to set up the necessary account / departments for each of the new codes? If so, it might be easier to copy an existing department to the new department code, which will create all the necessary records for you.

I'm using GL 9.0C (110131) and don't seem to have a File | Import | Departments option. That would have been so easy!

Andrew, these are all new departments. The account portion is already existing. To give you some background, we are importing a second company's data on a monthly basis for reporting into a new "consolidated" company and would like a way to import this second company's department descriptions for reporting. This is a first step at eventually moving towards using FX but the process is working well other than not having dept descriptions for this second company.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Upgrade to Ledger 9.0D where File | Import | Depertments is available.

Those would be "departments"!

But you need to understand that adding a list of departments does not automatically add the accounts associated with those departments. That is done with the "Copy Department" function.

There is an option in the Company Profile to generate an integrity error if an account-department pair does not have a proper department record. You might want to make sure that option is on.
