When entering an order in OE, does it make any difference whether we enter the discount in the percentage or the the amount field in the Total tab? Someone has brought to my attention that they had, for the first time, entered a discount into the amount field yesterday, and they noticed that all the $ fields zeroed out this morning after the product had shipped. The individual said that this had never happened to him until today so he thinks it may be because he entered the discount into the amount field instead of the % field that he usually fills in.

We are using OE 8.1C (100208).

To answer your question, it doesn't matter whether the % or amount is entered - both work equally.

Having the discount percentage on the Totals tab automatically calculates the discount dollar amount, based on the 'subtotal amount' that also displays on the Totals tab. Typically this happens when items are added for shipping, or perhaps removed from shipping. If no items are shipped, then the discount amount will be 0.00.

If the discount amount is directly edited, this re-calculates the percentage. This includes entering 0.00 as the discount amount, and this will re-calculate the percentage to 0.00%.

I wonder if the entry person accidentally typed 0 into either the discount % or amount field, thus removing the discount. You can go back to the order to see what the % value is - this is maintained, though the amount will likely be 0.00 because nothing at the moment is being shipped for that order.
