In POA, one can prorate miscellaneous charges to a received item based on relative quantity, weight or value. However, for overseas containers, these factors are irrelevant - all that matters is the space, in cubic meters, that each item takes up in the container.

What my client would like is a field to enter the volume of an item in cubic meters, and then provide that as an option for prorating miscellaneous charges. He can't believe his is the only company that would like to do this.

I suggested using the weight field to record the volume, but he is already using the weight field for its intended purpose.

Does anyone have clients who have this need, and if so how do they handle it. Can Softrak tell me whether adding this functionality is on the horizon?

This is an either or situation (actual weight or cubic volume). I've never seen anyone trying to track and make use of both. When volume is used we put this in the weight field.

Perhaps one day, POA will have an expanded PO line that would include new fields from inventory. For example, item dimensions and optional fields. Then you could prorate the miscellaneous charge on volume or some user defined value. I say 'one day', because it would require significant work to change the database, reports, etc.
