I am trying to set up account groups in g/l financial reporter and I think
my g/l accounts need to be remapped because I can't easily group the
accounts by "range".
Is there a program that I can use to speed this process up?

Hi bal,

When you are in the View Account Groups screen in the Adagio Financial Reporter, there is a way to read the Account Groups from Ledger and copy them over. First, make sure that you have opened the Financial Reporter from the Maintenance menu (to allow editing the groups).

Then with the View Account Groups window open, move the cursor to the white spce below the last account group and right-click. Select Reset to Default. This will re-read all the Account Groups and set up the correct account ranges for each group. Note that this will remove any Group settings such as Show Details, Include Totals, etc. This will also delete any alternate Groupings.

To edit a specific account Group range, click on the group, then left-click on the range (which will not highlight). Press F2 on your keyboard to get into Edit mode and you can edit the range.

The current shipping version of Adagio Ledger 6.8B (released this week) includes a much enhanced Financial Reporter, including a way to edit Account Group ranges much easier.

Regards,

I followed your instructions very carefully. I opened the Financial Reporter from the Maintenance Menu, viewed the Account Groups....
That's where it stops.

When I right click on my mouse and I get the same box i always get - "Allow Docking......"

What's wrong? I can use my right click in other programs.

Hello again Bal

Could I ask exactly where (on what) you are right-clicking?

Do you have any Account Groups setup now? Normally, there are default Account Groups defined when you first start to use Financial Reporter - have you been able to modify any of them?

Expanding a little on our previous response, I will try to clarify the procedure a bit more...

In FR, with your Account Groups displayed on the left, in order to modify the default Ranges that are displayed, you must:
1. Left-click on the NAME of the Range you wish to modify. It will be selected (highlighted).
2. To the right of the Range NAME (eg. Current assets) there is the actual account RANGE (eg. 1000:3000). LEFT-click on the RANGE 1000:3000 - NOTE: It will NOT be highlighted and will look as though nothing happened - this is the way it is.
3. Now, PRESS F2 - you will now be able to edit the range to comply with the Account Ranges that you wish to setup for your Financial Statements.
4. When you are done, press Enter
5. Repeat this procedure to finish editing the ranges that exist.

If you want to add more ranges, you would left-click on the GROUP to select it, then right-click to bring up the Sub-Menu:
Show Name
Include Total Line
Properties
New Group
Deleted Group
New Range
Sort Sub List
Move Down
Copy

Examples of the 'default' Groups are:
Adagio Ledger Account Group Definition
Assets
Liabilities
Income
Expenses
Etc...

Examples of Ranges include:
Current Assets
Fixed Assets
Accumulated Depreciation
Current Liabilities
Long Term Liabilities
Etc....

You can even remove all the default ones and setup your own from scratch, or setup several for each type of Financial Statement you wish to create. An example of this is also a default - you have the main 'Adagio Ledger Account Group Definition' as well as the 'Balance Sheet' Group and the 'Income Statement' group.

The whole purpose of the organized setup of Account Groups is to make the creation of Financial Statements from 'scratch' easy.

Hope this helps.
Regards,

Hello bal,

There is another way to set up your accounts. I will try and describe it from memory, and will verify my description tomorrow. The procedure is:

Open the Account Group and Chart of Account views, and position them side-by-side. You can then drag-and-drop the specific accounts you need into the various ranges. By drag and drop, I mean to left-click on an account (you can use shift-click to select a range of accounts). Then, holding down the left mouse button, drag the cursor over to the Account Group View and release the left mouse button when the account range you are trying to add the acocunts to is selected.
