I have closed previous yr to Jan 31 2010 and started next year. How do I turn off posting batches to previous year? Must I always choose next year before batch entry?

Hi Mabel,

If you want to disable the ability of posting a batch to the prior year, there is an option in the Company Profile that you can change.

When a 'Next Fiscal Year' batch is available - after the Next Year is created and before the Current Year is closed - then the Post to Prior Year function is automatically disabled.

But the ability to enter/post a batch to either the Current or Next Year will be available until such time that you close income statement amounts to retained earnings and officially close the Current year. If you have both years open, then you could use security to deny access to the Current Year batches for everyone, or if you are ready to close the Current year, then the required processing can be done.

You need to run the "Close current year" function to get rid of the "Next year batch" button.
