Hi,

Can anyone tell me how to write a filter formula that will accomplish this:

Instead of saying, {Item #} = "SA EX"

I want it to say, {Item #} contains "SA EX"

Are there wildcards I can use or another method?

Hi Susan,

Use the FIND function. Search for one piece of text ("SA EX") within some other text ({Item #}), starting at a particular place (1 for the beginning of the item #, a different number if you don't want to search at the beginning of the item #).

The result will be 0 if not found, or an integer if found, representing the character position where it was found. Do a filter that looks for the result of this formula not equal to zero.

Information for using the FIND function can be found in the Help file.

The MID function should also work if the "SA EX" is always in the same position in the Item #
