I ran AP System cheques on Friday. When I tried to print the Cheque Register, I received the following message "Critical Error: [1] Unknown error deleting data set". The register printed ok, the entries seemed to process ok, and the data integrity check showed ok.

Today, the AP System Cheque pre-check listed all of the Friday cheques. I re-ran the pre-check, the Friday cheques disappeared and again, everything seemed to process ok, until I printed the cheque register. Same error message, plus when I closed AP I received this message "List index our of bounds (o)".

Is there something I can correct easily or do I go to a backup and redo several days work? Thanks in advance for your advice.

Did you recetly upgrade to Payables V8.1B?

Please tell us what version of Adagio Payables you are running from Help | About.

OK. What else changed? Did you move the data to another server? Does the data pass the Data Integrity Check?

Sounds like you've got some extraneous temporary files - that is what the first error message typcially means. In some previous usage, the report did not successfully clear the report files, and now the next time you use the report the required file cannot be created, or the file just created could not be deleted.

Or perhaps a file is locked on the system and the printing of the new report has an issue.

Do you get the same error(s) if you go to the Payments tab and click the Generate button? This does the same file manipulation as previewing the Pre-Check Register report.

Ensure that there are no data files that don't have full read/write access. Or missing file permissions.

The second error 'list index out of bounds (0)' typically means a drop-down field needed to be generated but was unable to, and the index for display could not be read. This likely is a symptom of the first error.

No server changes. I ran the data integrity check again and it says ok.

I tried that generate button. I get the message "Attempting to perform operation on unopened System Cheque Paylist file." followed by the crtical error message.

Thanks for the update.

The Pay List data files are APPLST'I.xxx and APPLST'R.xxx. Do you have these files in your data directory? Can you rename or move them when everybody is out of Payables (to test if you have access rights)?

I suspect there is access 'corruption' involving rights, rather than an actual problem with the numbers in the data. Your IT and perhaps your Adagio Consultant should be involved.

Maybe another clue - the "last system cheque printed" indicator in the Status tab of Print/Post Cheques seems to be stalled on 02/26/2010. Neither last Friday's or today's (Monday) cheques are reflected, although the system has the correct date and time in the "lst pre-check register" indicator.

The files are in our data directory but an attempt to rename them is met with "being used by another person or program".

I'll ask our Adadgio Consultant to look at this. Thanks.

Tom:

At some point when you had these files in use your workstation crashed/hangged or some such thing. You will need to reboot the server to clear the hold on these files and then retry Softrak's suggestion.
