Need to find Adagio dealer who has experience and clients running Adagio successfully on a: Windows 2008 Server R1 (with Service Pack 2, and 64 Bit Operating System) with Citrix XenApp 5.0 (running on a Windows 2008 Server R1 with Service Pack 2 and 64 Bit OS).
The File Server is running on Hyper-v

I have a client who is experiencing problems. Users are having their sessions terminated and then can not log back into their Citrix session. Problem continues to get worse and client has lots of down time. It is believed that Adagio record locking has occasionally been a problem with some data corruption.

One error message is: Volume Shadow Copy Service error: The process that hosts the writer with name Softrak ADS Writer and ID{cb4e…….} does not run under a user with sufficient access rights. Consider running this process under a local account which is either Local System, Administrator, Network Service, or Local Service.

Their network consultant wants to know:
1.Is the file server supported running as a VM under Hyper-v?
2.Is the Client supported under Terminal Server/Citrix 2008 64 Bit?
3.Can the Adagio ADS Engine be run somewhere else?

There are other errors messges in the event log. Their Network Consultant is looking for them now.

The client is experiencing considerable down time and greatly impacting their work output. Need to find solution to problems ASAP.

Hi Philip,

The fastest solution is to move the client to a supported environment. This environment is significant overkill for Adagio, and there is no need for this complexity.

To answer your specific questions:

1. No.
2. Yes to "Terminal Server", not specifically to "Citrix" (they're not the same). But Adagio is not a client server application.
3. Yes, but it must be with the application itself (see 2 above).

It sounds like they have a rights issue as well. Are they running this complex environment for some other applicaion? If not, then get rid of "Hyper-V" and Citrix and put in place MS and Terminal Server.

Thank you Andrew for your input.

Need to re-phrase one of the questions.
1. Will Adagio work when insalled on a file server running as a VM under Hyuper-v?

Why run it on a virtual machine when it runs so much better on a real machine? The only other site I heard of attempting this had no success (that I heard of). Their IT guy had no reasonable basis for trying this configuration.

Andrew, I understand you point. Thank you for pointing out that another IT person was not able to get Adagio to run under Hyper-v. I will pass that on to my client's IT person.

If they need this configuration for other applications I will suggest that they put Adagio on a differn server.
