Print out of Inventory value calculated back to a prior date shows Average Unit value, Quantity on Hand, Actual Cost, but what do these numbers mean?

Try calculating Inventory Sample data back to 4/12/2001, before the May 2001 transactions. 1st Item - BKH.UNI-001 - Actual Cost of 3248.23/18 equals 180.46, not the average unit value shown of 232.02.

After running a dayend, the average unit value of the 14 remaining in inventory is 178.86 when running a current report.

Calculated back to 5/12/01, before the last shipment of 1, Actual Cost Value is $2690.11 divided by 15 is 179.34. Report shows average unit value as 192.15.

Even stranger is BKM.ROY.003. At 4/30/01 Q = 15, Actual = 8.55, Average = .34. After receipt of 10 in 6/2001, Q = 25, Actual = 3458.88, Average = 138.36

Hi Kate,

Backdating an Item Valuation report is meant to calculate the qty and total cost of items as of that date, using the current figures and the Transaction History records for the difference. From that, the unit cost is further calculated. If History is not complete or if an OE Day End has not been performed, this process will not give accurate results.

If there are particular examples as you have given that give unexpected results, we can take a look.

I was seeing strange results in a client's numbers, so I started reviewing IC Sample data to see if I could find a reason. But sample data all showed the same kind of weird results.

The examples above are from IC Sample data. I did a day end to make sure nothing was uncosted.

Hi Kate,

Sample data doesn't contain all the historical transactions, so in some (many?) cases, the item valuation won't work if you backdate it far enough.

That being said, the example you gave for BKM.ROY-003 does have the receipt dated 6/15/2001 and I would have expected the Total Cost for valuation as of 4/30/01 to be 2083.88, not 8.55. Based on this (and other examples), we'll take it from here.
