I am wondering if it is possible to change the extension for the files in a module after it has been set up already.

Several years ago when the modules were set up for one of our companies the AP module was set up with the extension COA and the AR & GL modules were set up with the extension 375.

We believe that the different extensions may be the reason the descriptions of the GL accounts does not appear when entering account numbers for payable entries.

I would like to change the COA extension to 375 so that all modules have the same extension. Is this possible? Is it just a matter of editing the file extension on each individual file or is there a different process that should be followed?

Thanks,
Laura

Exit to DOS ( Start a CMD window )

Change to the data folder

Type the following once you are in your data folder

Ren AP*.COA AP*.375

and it is done.

You will want to make sure that there are no AP*.375 files existing prior to renaming the AP*.COA files.

Question...How have you been getting your Payables info retrieved into the general ledger? I know there are a couple of different ways, but not a simple as retrieving a batch from a dataset with the same extension.

Follow Steve's direction and be sure of no AP*.375 files.

Make sure "verify fields" is turned on under File | Options after you have renamed the files to have the g/l accounts validated on entry.

Hi David,

I'm not 100% sure of the process since my staff normally does this. But, I believe that they just have to change the extension showing in the Retrieve Subledger Batches box.

It's never been a big problem so we have just left things as they were. Now that I see how easy it is to change the extension I will likely do some clean up in a couple of our other data files.

Thanks for the input!
Laura

Thanks for all your help everyone! I made a copy of my data and did the rename on the copied version just in case I messed something up. But, everything looks good!

I did notice that there are a few other files that have different extensions in the same folder. Two of the files are in there with a COA extension and a 375 extension so I assume I can't do the rename thing. The third file has a completely different extension (LD4). Can you tell me what the following files are and if I should just delete them? ADSPROF, EZSEMTAB, and EZSSILCK.

Thanks,
Laura

ADSPROF is required. It stands for ADagio System PROFile.

EZSEMTAB contains record and file locking formation. Just leave it. . If deleted, Adagio recreates it.

I think EZSSILCK is used to control access to data from Crystal Reports for Adagio, at least some of the time.

Files with the extension LD4 are old ACCPAC program files. For safety, copy them to another folder before deleting.

If there are only two files with extension of COA and 375, they obviously are not a full set of data. Copy them to another folder and then delete them.

BTW, copying your data and experimenting on the copy si exactly the right way to go. Paranoia is sometimes a good thing. smile

Hi Ralph,

Thanks for the info. I have a copy of everything and then I deleted the duplicate files under the COA extension. I have tested things a bit and so far everything looks good! Yay!

I think I am the paranoia queen so I still have the original data just in case my staff encounter any problems now that the extensions have been fixed.

Thanks,
Laura
