Just installed OE 8.1C. Company Profile/System Default/Reverse order of order list is checked (as it was in the old OE) except, the new OE is defaulting the blue line to the bottom of the list instead of the top in Enter Orders/Invoices/Credit Notes. Can I fix this?

Converting AR data now.... !!!

IC, OE and AR all installed now. Not sure how AR knew which fields were city and province but it appears to have converted perfectly!!! The speed in all 3 modules is unbelievably better for searching items and customers. Even remotely I can tell the speed is 20 times faster. Very Impressive!!!! I'll have to fine tune things in the coming days and especially looking forward to setting up the Ontario Environmental Fees properly. Great work Softrak!!

I installed OE 8.1C today and ran into a glitch with the "Print Order Action" report. Running the same report as yesterday (which worked fine with OE 8.1B) it generates the error message "Starting value cannot be greater than ending value". Both the beginning and ending values for the item # are the same. Fields other than item # are at their defaults. This also happens if the starting value is lower than the ending value. If the starting value of the item # is higher than the ending value, the report generates but gives no details.

I tried to open the sample data to check it there but it doesn't recognize my user group and will not open. Sample data for CR and IC opens with no problems.

Is anyone else experiencing these problems?

Try turning off "remember report settings" in the company profile and running the report again.

Hi Susan,

The 'reverse grid' settings appears to be working for me with OE81C - the newest orders or invoices are at the top of the grid. Perhaps try editing the Company Profile to remove the option, then add it back in.

Glad to hear that you are happy with the upgrade so far.

Hi Rick,

I cannot duplicate a problem with the Order Action report in OE81C and sample data. Can you?

What are the item codes that you are using in your range? Do they have leading spaces or contain special non-alphanumeric characters? Do your item codes have one segment or multiple segments?

There was an update to the Order Action report to allow selection of the 'expected ship date' that is stored on the order detail (as opposed to the date on the order header).

"Reverse Grid" is working fine.. and yes, the newest Orders, Invoices and Credits are at the top of the list and the oldest Orders, Invoices and Credits are at the bottom of the list. It's just that the particular Order that is "selected by default" when you open OE/Enter Orders/Invoices/Credits is the one at the BOTTOM of the list. Therefore the first thing you have to do each time you open OE/Enter Orders/Invoices/Credits is scroll all the way through thousands of Orders to the opposite end of the list so you can see the current orders. This is silly. Why would anyone want to default to viewing their Orders from last year? We want to see TODAYS Orders/Invoices/Credits when we open OE/Enter Orders/Invoices/Credits.

If you uncheck Company Profile/System Default/Reverse order of order list, you'll get the oldest Orders, Invoices and Credits at the top of the list, however "selected by default" is still the oldest Order when you open OE/Enter Orders/Invoices/Credits, this time at the top of the list.

So, whichever way you list the Orders (oldest to newest or newest to oldest) you are stuck with looking at the oldest Orders on your system, before they are moved to history, by default. I preferred the old OE in this respect because it defaulted to the top of the list when using the reverse grid, and therefore brought you immediately to today's orders.

Overall this is a small inconvenience in comparison to the many improvements, but just a little annoying..

Hi Susan,

OrderEntry 81B always highlighted the first order at the top of the grid regardless of the sort order.

OrderEntry 81C always highlights the oldest order. This should be a feature for the person who is invoicing existing orders.

Why are the orders from last year still in the current file? Are they incomplete?

Instead of scrolling through thousands of Orders, use the Home/End keys to quickly move to the other end of the grid.

Hello Rick,

I have been able to duplicate the error message that you are receiving with the OrderAction report and it has been forwarded to R&D.

The issue is related to Single segment items.

In Orders, we have 15 or 20 entries with Order Date June 30, 2020 that we are not able to get rid of. Very frustrating be reminded of those every day! After those, there are completed orders going back to February 2009.

In Invoices we have 2020 entries and then random invoices from 2007, 2008. No idea why they didn't move to history. Most of them are complete but the odd one says the order is not complete in the Invoice grid, but the order actually is complete and has been moved to history.

Credit Notes show a couple of the dreaded 2020 entries then about 20 that show no Credit Note date in the grid but appear to be from 2008 and then February 2009.

The Home/End key works good.

Hello Susan,

If you don’t need to see Completed Orders from February 2009, modify the Company profile settings for “Purge from Current after days”.

Try printing the old Invoices and credit notes that should have cleared to History.

The next Dayend will clear them from Current.

If the Company Profile option, Mark printed to screen as printed’ is set, you don’t have to waste any paper. Just note that Preview is not enough to change the print status. When you print the Invoices or Credit notes, you have to set the Destination to Screen and choose the Print button.

Hello Support:

I'm with Susan on this one. I see your point but I think the previous approach was better.

Showing the most recent Order gives context for any new Orders. The order entry clerk can immediately see which orders have been entered and which have been printed. Since orders are entered sequentially, it's a natural instinct to say "where did I leave off?".

I just got an identical complaint today from a client, and I agree that there was nothing wrong with the previous approach, so why change it? Please change it back.

Another complaint from another client...

Now that the detail grid size is customizable, there is only one size for all detail types. This is a problem for comments, instructions, and misc charges, because there is a big opaque block that hides information which used to be viewable.

I really can't figure out how the grid size being customizable is an improvement. Expanding the size only expands the dead space; it doesn't make more room for data fields.

Can you please revisit this issue, and either make the size grid customizable by detail type and make the data field section expandable, or just go back to the old way.

Hi Steve,

We made the form sizeable in order to allow the display of more locations if necessary. Sizeable forms have a minimum size to prevent users shrinking them to "nothing". The space is covered when editing a detail so is empty when only a comment line is being added.

We'll see if we can improve this somehow, but it's not any different than when the form was sizeable (except that you could see more of the already entered detail lines when entering/editing a comment/instruction/misc charge line).

Hi Susan,

We might have "broken" this while fixing another problem noticed when the release was being run through Quality Assurance. We'll make a note to change the behaviour in the next Service Pack. In the interim, the Home-End keys will have to do.

Sorry.

Hi Andrew

That one parenthetical exception is not a minor issue - purposely making a screen less functional is a downgrade, not an upgrade.

There was nothing "purposeful" about this change of behaviour. It wasn't noticed when the fix for the other problem was checked. If you want a detailed explanation as to why the program now behaves in this manner I can give it to you.

Your client can move back to the previous release if they are very unhappy about the change.

My client isn't very unhappy.

I'm was trying to identify for Softrak an area of dissatisfaction before I attempt to upgrade the bulk of my 50+ OE users on Upgrade Plans, so that you get a chance to address it before too many other users complain (and they will).

I was also trying to be constructive and suggest a better way to design the functionality of the sizeable detail grids. I realize it might not be a simple change.

I hope this gets considered a design error and is changed back in the next service pack. Many end users are holding old orders for many valid reasons (though I'll agree that may more are holding old orders that they should not be) and rarely does anyone access the oldest order for any reason, certainly not the person doing invoicing.

Hi Doug,

This wasn't a "design error". It was an unnoticed change of behaviour as a result of fixing another problem during the final QA cycle of the product. We'll change it back. On the bright side, it pointed out the functionality of the home and end keys to Susan!

A Hot Fix is now available that address the issue of cursor placement on an inverted grid, the sizing of the line item dialog and the problem with the Order Action report amongst other items.

Thanks for your patience.
