Hello (again) Antonio,

Well, my first take on this is that the G/L entry is wrong .

However, perhaps you could fax us (604.736-6431) an annotated couple of pages from your Invoice / Credit Note audit list and your G/L transaction listing so that we might figure out what is happening. We may require a copy of your ACCPAC data with an unpurged audit list to ultimately figure out what Sales Analysis is doing differently.

As an aside, we made an adjustment to the way Sales Analysis handles standard costed items in 1992, so I'm surprised that this has not been raised as an issue before!

Just to clarify (since we've had a little more time to research this)...

Softrak's Sales Analysis uses the standard cost os its cost for determining profitability (and as companies use standard costing to reflect their (guestimated) true cost of an item, I think we are using the right figure). If you are seeing only the $8 figure in your G/L, it is because you have set both the COG and cost variance G/L accounts to the same account number. If you set these to different account numbers, you will see that the G/L actually receives 2 entries, one for the standard cost and one for the cost variance. Over time, the cost variance account should move towards zero, if your standard costs have been estimated correctly.

So, the solution to the issue, is not to use Standard Costing, if you really want the moving average cost reflected in Sales Analysis.

Why not just change the control account set to use Moving Average Costing from Standard Costing? All your items using this account set will have their accounting changed.

(Note to all you accountants out there:

I know that GAAP "frowns on" changing your costing method, but as Antonio's company has effectively been using moving average costing for all these years, this hardly represents a change in accounting practices )

P.S. (Lest anyone think that I have suddenly joined the Technical Support department, it was actually, Chris, Michael, Robin and Warren that figured this all out! My thanks to them for letting me take all the glory.)
