this is the second time this week i received an error while editing a batch. i couldn't close out of the module and any entry i highlighted...i would lose all the entries after that including the one i highlighted.

the first time this error happened i went to the first entry and lost all 60 entries. this next time this happened i stayed at the last entry i was working on and only lost one entry.

once i move the cursor and highlight an entry all the entries go blank. then i reboot and get into adagio and the number of entries that show on the batch is where i started before i began the original session. then when i edit the batch and say okay, i see all but the last entry i was working on. this last entry is all zero.

what do i need to do to fix this? i am assuming that it is a programming error and not a conflict with my operating environment. i use windows xp at one clients and vista at another and it happened at both places. and they only use this one module.

thanks
Laura

Hi Laura

A client of mine just reported the same thing last week. They had 1,025 entries in a GL batch retrieved from AP, and after the error (and after running Data Integrity Check and rebuilding) they ended up with only the first 60 entries.

They are using GL 9.0A (080402) and their network is Novell, which somehow I suspect as the culprit.

What version are you using, and what network operating system?

Steve

Hello Laura,

Without knowing the specific steps you went through, it will be hard to ascertain what is causing the problem. To minimize the chances of losing a lot of transactions, we recommend that you retrieve and post as frequently as possible from the subidiary ledgers. We don't charge by the batch, and transactions for the next period can be safely retrieved, even if you have not finished closing the current period (assuming you are retrieving based on the date of the transaction).

I agree with Steve that the problem may well be the software between the workstation and the server. If it was a common problem we would have had many more complaints about this behaviour (who likes a crash to lose transactions!).

i am working on a standalone computer not a network environment.

i am working with the GL module alone. but i do have two batches that i am going in between. i am catching up a company's books for 6 months. i now have 5 batches open and i can't complete them until i am onsite.

i have been copying entries from one batch to another. it doesn't happen right after a copy, but i just started using that function and now i have these problems with losing entries.

does this help any?

oh...i forgot to mention that i have more than one fiscal month open. i have been using the ledger forever...and have never had this problem...and this is the first time i have had more than one month open at once....could this be helpful to you in knowing what is going on?

i hope. i keep losing information and after i get caught up i will only have one month open at a time, but i have to catch up.

i have two other clients that use this and they operate on windows server 2000 and we had this happen there as well. i just called their bookkeeper and she had two months open as well.

please advise.
thanks

HI LauraV,

I doubt this is related to having more than one fiscal period "open", but do you mean that you have more than one batch open (actually "open" displaying the transactions rather than just "open" as opposed to "printed" or "posted" status) at the same time?

Also, does this problem occur quickly upon working in the batches, or have you been working in th batches for several hours before the access violation occurs?

Also, how many transactions typically make up one of these batches?

Also, what are the specifications of the machine you are working on (Windows version, amount of RAM, processor speed)?

Thanks
