Dear fskg

You should post your concerns re: ACCPAC 6.5 on the Plus Community Forum or contact AI for support. This forum deals strictly with Softrak Products, not ACCPAC Plus application issues.

If you are having problems with one of our products, please be specific and give information on:
- What product are you speaking of?
- What Version and release date is it?
- What version of WSM are you using?
- What exact function/option were you in when the error occurred?
- Was anyone else in the same product, or an integrated product while you were performing this function?
- Do you have the required number of Lanpaks installed for the number of users on the system at the time?

All these types of questions will need to be answered in order for someone to assist you effectively.

File unit errors are returned in most cases by the ACCPAC Plus WSM, rather than the actual application that you are performing the procedure in. You could also try looking in your WSM manual for more information on these types of errors.

If you are performing a Year End procedure, in most cases, nobody else should be in the application you are trying to do this in.

Perhaps your station needs to get rebooted to clear a file that has become 'stuck' or is otherwise being held by a Windows process that has not completed yet. It is hard to say at this point.

Again, if this is an ACCPAC Plus module, posting your issue at www.pluscommunity.com should be more productive.

If this is a Softrak product, then please post your answers to our questions back here in another reply.

Thank you!
Regards

Softrak Support

Dear fskg

Thank you for the information. This IS the forum you need to post your issues regarding TBR.

We need full detailed answers to the questions we asked in our previous post, so we can fully understand what has occurred and when. Consider the previous suggestions as well.

There are no known issues indicating this message specifically. As indicated earlier, this type of error/warning occurs most often when WSM has come across something unexpected. Other things to consider:

- Has anything changed on your system from the previous month? If so, what?

- Are there any other users of the TBR data?

- Have you tried re-installing TBR and/or the WSM?

- Have you upgraded the WSM lately? If so, are you sure TBR is compatible with the new version?

- Do you have Files=250 in your config file? This is standard for ACCPAC Plus. I do not know exactly what structure Windows ME uses for the config file(s). Your Dealer should be able to help you with this.

-During the function that produced the "Unopened file unit 0" error, press <Alt-F3>. This will give you a list of current file units in use. If you press <Alt-F2> you will be able to see what resources are currently being used as well.

-If you are running TBR on your local hard drive - is the data there as well, or is it on the Novell Server?

-Have you tried making a copy of the data and putting it on your local hard drive, then pointing TBR at it to see if you can duplicate the problem? If you cannot duplicate the issue with local data, then this normally points to a problem with the network. If you still get the File Unit error (which would be unusual), then it may be data-related. Can you duplicate this by pointing TBR to sample data? (TBR Sample Data (if you chose to install it at the time) will be located in the ASP\Samdata\Softrak\TBR directory.) If not, then there is a problem with the data you are using and it should be looked at before you proceed with any other processing.

-If you have Softrak's DataCare, I would suggest running that by doing a Single Entry Check on TBR only. DataCare does a more thorough check of the data than the WSM DIC. Make sure you have the options for flat and keyed files checked, then perform the 'verbose' method of diagnostic check. If it finds errors, print the DataCare Log to see where the errors are.

If you do not have DataCare, I would consult your Dealer for assistance. They should have the tools necessary to investigate this further.

Good luck!

Regards,
Softrak Support

Dear fskg,

Based on your further comments, it's unlikely that a data integrity problem is causing this file unit error. DataCare would not be able to fix an error of this sort; it's purpose is to find invalid characters in fields.

File Units represent data files and which user has access to them. For example, if someone is editing a customer, the file is locked, preventing anyone else from editing the same customer at the same time. If a problem occured while editing was taking place, the program may think a file is still in use when that's really not the case.

My next suggestion is to close the Accpac Plus WSM. Then rename the data file ezsemtab.zzz (where zzz is your data extension) in the directory where your TBR data is. When you next open TBR, this file will be recreated fresh. Are you able to complete the month end or does the File Unit error continue to occur?

Should the error still happen, this may be related to the version of Novell Client 32 you have on your machine. Novell Client has been known to give File Unit errors in Accpac Plus programs in certain circumstances, where another version allows the same functions to work successfully. Have you upgraded your machines or your network/client recently?

Regards,
Softrak Support

We don't have a file named ezsemtab.***. Also what is ACCPAC WSM that you refer to? All we have is Client Profiles, A/r, and TBR.We also looked at other files created during the same time and found no locks etc. Any more ideas would be appreciated.

1. If you are connected to a Server that is running Novell 3.2, then you will have a 'Novell Client' for Windows running on your local PC. This could be one supplied by your version of Windows, thus it would be a Microsoft client for Netware, or it could be one from Novell for the version of Windows that you are running on your local PC. Whether or not you are running the correct version of the one you have installed or not remains to be seen.

2. You SHOULD have an ezsemtab.xxx file in your data directory. The fact that you do not could be part of the problem.

3. ACCPAC 'WSM' refers to the 'W'indowing 'S'ystem 'M'anager that you must be running in order to even be able to install an ACCPAC or associated product onto your system. When you first startup ACCPAC Plus, this is the 'menu' program you will see at first, that lists TBR on the left along with any other ACCPAC programs you have installed.

There is definitely something going on that has affected (or is still affecting) your files, resulting in the File Unit error you keep getting. Unfortunately, trying to resolve this via our Forum has reached it's limit of effectiveness.

I would suggest that you contact your ACCPAC Dealer at this point for assitance in resolving your issues with the File Unit error. Dealers have experience dealing with ACCPAC and errors in general that are associated with these products. Your Dealer will be able to come to your office and do some trouble-shooting that would quickly resolve this.

Good luck!
