I have used the IC report group field over many years for the page on which that item can be found in our current catalog.

I right justify this three character field so that I can flag the page for various reasons in the first position. For example an item on page one of our catalog that is new has a report group of "N01", but if it is an old item this is simply " 01".

I also have a few allowed strings such as IUO or DLR or SPC that mean certain things within our company.

So my question . . . I wanted to have Adagio force us to use certain report groups only - trying to avoid typos or on-the-fly made up flags.

In trying to enter report group acceptable data the program seems to be left justifying short entries. In other words it appears that when I enter " 01" that simply becomes "01".

Thought I'd clarify this before undertaking "the change" and entering in all acceptal "groups".

Thanks,
Robert

Hi Robert,

Adagio Inventory allows you to enter a list of allowable report group codes. In the File / Options screen, there is an option to 'Verify Report Groups', meaning that if you enter a value onto an item that is not in the Report Group list, an error will appear and prevent the invalid value from being saved.

Naturally this verification applies to editing items and not places such as printing reports by a specified report group range.

In regards to entering and sorting the 3-character report group codes, indeed leading spaces are trimmed away, so ' 01' becomes '01' without the space. Also, the sort is left-justified so that 'AAA' sorts before 'Z'.

Perhaps use a leading ASCII character like a period or a dash (instead of a space) to get '.01' or '-01' if you require the report group codes to be sorted in a particular way.
