Hello again

Could you please tell me what each of these expressions are reporting for you? This would be helpful, as when I use them on sample data, they report the same thing, no matter what I post to the accounts, however, this may not be a good test.

'BAL_Y' or Adagio FR's 'Opening Balance THIS Year' should match what ACCPAC Plus reports, which is 'Opening balance of current year'.

I agree that Adagio's [Open], or 'Opening Balance CURRENT Year' is confusing. So much so, that I have asked R&D what the actual difference is, because I see none!

Once again - good question! I will update you when I get clarification.

Regards,
Softrak Support

Hello mrushton

Thank you for the information.

The Help system in Financial Reporter does not contain descriptions (or other information) on the Balance Spec codes. A specification code list comes up when dragging an account group range onto the FS, as you have seen. This list contains the balance content description (Name) on the left, and the corresponding 'Symbol' on the right. If you are familiar with the Column Content Codes used in ACCPAC Plus GL, you will be able to identify the spec codes used here. These are also similar to those used in Quik Link when reading in data from a GL database.

Thank you for your suggestion for the Help files. I will pass this on.

Regards
Softrak Support

Dear Martin

"BAL_Y" returns the Opening Balance for the Current Year. This is a calculated field. (Current Balance on File - Sum of Net Posted for the Year). This is the correct code to use for Financial Reports

"OPEN" returns the value in the Opening Value Bucket from the physical file. This is a Value direct from the disk with no calculation, (it will be the same as reported by our Report Writers). This, most likely, should not be used for Financial Reports.

The 2 values (.OPEN and .BAL_Y) will be the same unless a Prior Year Posting has been applied against the account.

Because of your question, R&D has decided to change the operation of .OPEN to be the same as that of .BAL_Y as there would be no real reason to want the value currently returned by .OPEN on a financial statement.

Thank you!
