I send a copy of our financial reports to the bank monthly. Trusting Adaigio I have not been looking at them until I received a phone call telling me our Retained earnings are "way out" and don't change. In trying to explain that the retained earnings account is adjusted at year end by the accountant and not monthly I found I could not show them because the end balance of retained earnings for last year is not the balance showing for this year. When I do a detailed listing the end balance is 2,105,873.24 and the current year opening balance is 2,786,244.76. Why???

What are your formulas for the Retained Earnings for This Year and Last Year.

Last Year's Retained Earning Opening + Profit/Loss Last Year = This Year's Opening Balance

In Fisal Period 12 your difference is most likely last year's profit/loss

What version of Adagio Ledger (or Adagio FX) are you running?

It may be that your data is OK but your financial statement has the wrong formulas to print the closing/opening balances.

In addition to Michael's comments, you may want to use the Edit History function to View the retained earnings account for last year, to see the opening and closing balance, and all of the net changes in between. You can also see the current year Opening Balance when editing/viewing an account from the Edit Accounts function.

The "formula" is the range of the retained earnings account. The GL account itself has an ending balance for 2007 of 2,105,873.70 and an opening balance in 2008 of 2,786,245.23. Would year end adjustments not show on a detail listing of the GL account?

Sorry to be thick but where do I find Edit history? We are using Adaigio Ledger 9.0.

I figured out what I was doing wrong. It was the year end entries and when I was doing the detail listing I somehow did not include the final month. It balances. Sorry to waste your time but thanks for the help.

No worries - under the Edit menu you should find 'Account History'. You will be able to see balances and net changes for a previous year.

If you posted your Year End Adjustments using the Adagio Ledger 90A feature to the 'year end adjustment' period, you also need to click the 'year end adjustment' toolbar button in the financial reporter in order to include them. This is the button with 'YE' and a green check mark. If you don't see this button, you should reset your toolbar from the View / Customize function within the financial reporter.

And as for the formula, what is the field code used for reporting the closing and opening amounts? This could be important. OPEN or BAL_Y for the current year opening? BAL or CURBAL or BAL_[12]M or another for the previous year closing?
