Is there a way to shorten the length of the lines in a specification? My problem: I have designed a picking ticket in Order Entry. The detail portion only uses about 3 inches of the left side of the page. I want to print it with an overlay from an excel spreadsheet that will print on the right hand side of the page. What is happening: the pick tick monopolizes all of the line to the right margin and won't let the spreadsheet print. The spreadsheet starts at the end of the pick ticket. In other words, the top of the spreadsheet is missing, and I only get the bottom part after the end of the pick ticket. Any ideas?

1. There is a checkbox for each field in the designer called "Auto size field." If this is unchecked, the field length should be limited to the size you make it.

2. Depending on how you are combining this with the spreadhseet, you might be able to change the page width in the form designer's specification options; you will have to select custom form size first.

I'd be interested in knowing how you are creating this overlay.

Thanks Ralph. I have tried both those suggestions and I can't get it to work.
Andrew. I am creating this overlay using a Minolta BizHub 200 photocopier, that is also connected to our computer system so we can use it as a printer. You can create a file in any program such as Word or Excel, save it as an overlay file. Then I use Adagio Order Entry to generate a picking ticket, set the properties of the printer to print the overlay along with the picking ticket. It is like printing a letter with letter head. In theory it should work, but what I am finding is that the picking ticket wants the whole width of the page and won't let my spreadsheet print where I want it to. If I wanted to print it at the top or the bottom of the picking ticket, it would do that.
By the way, we just loaded the Order Entry 8.1B from April and tried it on Friday. We are very impressed with some of the new features, especially text boxes, and item searches. Thanks. Linda

Hi Linda,

Printing an overlay "adjacent" to other text might be a printer limitation. Can you do something similar using just Word or Excel? The printer might also be having trouble deciding what image should be "on top" (overlays are usually "behind" other objects), and what is "transparent" or "opaque" on the printed page.

Glad you like the new features. You can suggest other improvements by posting them here. Have you attended any of the weekly Wednesday Webinar series? (They're free.)

Glad

Hi Linda,

Unfortunately the section (the white space) is not transparent on a specification.

You would have to have the image print on top of the specification and have the image be transparent.

Another solution would be to do a screen capture of what you are trying to print and then place it as a graphic directly on the specification.

Just thought I would let you know that I wasn't successful in doing the overlay as I wanted. I tried all of the suggestions but none worked completely. So I decided to photocopy the spreadsheet portion on the paper, and then use that to print my picking tickets. That is working just fine. Thanks for all the ideas. Linda
