Hi,we just recently purchased Adagio and are having the same problem on one computer. We are running Small Business Server 2003 with XP Pro Workstations. Email works fine on all the XP Workstations with either direct or mapi. Our server is set up with a user login where Adagio is running great, except for email. The user set up on the server does exactly as LesterF described, the entire Adagio module crashes meaning it closes without warning whenever it attempts to send email. It does this not only in Adagio Order Entry, but also in Adagio Receivables, Adagio DataCare and I presume any/all Adagio modules that have email capability. I tested the same computer with outlook express and it sends mail fine, so it must be something from within the Adagio program.
Is there a fix for this problem??

Why are you running Adagio on the Server?

Hi Andrew, Yes, we are running Adagio on the server, however only from a user set up on the server, so therefore not full server access (not sure if that makes a difference).

Hi Susan,
When sending email using the MAPI format, this relinquishes control of the email sending functionality to the email program (Outlook, etc). What email program is used at your site, Outlook Express or another?
When sending email by MAPI, often some sort of screen appears from the email program (ie Outlook) to ensure that the email is intended to be sent, as opposed to spam. You have to click OK to start sending the email and OK a second time when it completes. Perhaps this screen is hidden underneath some other window, and the program hasn't crashed but rather waiting for a user response to a screen the user can't see. Perhaps try alt-tabbing away from OE and back again to see if any other screens appear.
How do you send emails (Now or To the Queue)?
Because all other workstations are able to send email from Adagio successfully, the problem is likely how the email is configured on the server.

Hi, I tested as you suggested and confirmed it is definately crashing the Adagio program.
For example, on the Windows user that is set up on the server, I can open Adagio OE/Email/Email Setup and enter the correct return address, select direct, enter the smtp in mail server and the display name. When I click Test Email, the program hangs for about 20 seconds then *poof* *gone*. The same test done with mapi results in the exact same way, and no there is no other program opening at that time.
Another test I ran was Orders/Invoices/Print/Email. As soon as you click the email button, the program hangs again for 20 seconds and *poof* *gone* again. It doesn't even get to the point where you can choose Now or add to Queue.
When I run these exact same tests on any of the Windows XP computers everything works like a charm both direct and mapi. With direct it just sends. With mapi, it pops up a window that requires us to click allow so it will run.
Emails send successfully from the Server computer with BackUp Exec software, APC Powerchute software, Outlook Express (set up as a test). The server is also set up with Exchange Server. It is only Adagio software that won't send email from the server computer.

Personally, I'd recommend spending the $400-$600 to buy another XP machine and avoid running Adagio on the server. Servers are not designed to run end user applications.

My SBS tech support guys think it is something to do with how Adagio is mapped. Although all computers have Adagio pointing to I:\Data, the Windows user on the server is pointing locally to I:\Data instead of across the network. We will likely move the server and add a workstation eventually but just finished a major upgrade and can't get to that right away. The server is only being used for at the counter sales and day end. Everyone has their own computers at their own desks. This one is an extra.

You are using your counter sales computer as the server????
Isn't there a WIndows 98 machine around somewhere you could use?
