In GL after printing multiple batches and then posting them, I've had the screen freeze at the same point several times. Screen states "merging transactions". It then freezes. I have to press CTRL ALT Del to get out of the GL. When I get back in, I've always been able to print the posting journal, but I'm concerned as to why it may be happening. I also would like to know if there's some way to check, other than the posting journals, that the transactions are "merging" completely and correctly. Or, if there is a need to.

Thanks,
karen

Hello Karen,

Firstly, are we talking about Ledger V8.1 or Ledger V9.0?

Secondly, when you bring up the task manager, does it indicate that Ledger.EXE (or ALWIN.EXE) is "doing anything? You can check this by switching to the Processes tab and sorting by CPU usage. It's also helpful to add IO Read Bytes to the columns displayed (use View | Select columns in the Task Manager), since sometimes I/O intensive tasks (of which GL posting is one) can occasionaly be so busy reading and writing information that they "forget" to check the keyboard and mouse as frequently as they should. Also, if you have a "marginal" network card, posting in Adagio Ledger is I/O intensive enough it might be causing the card to fail.

BTW - I hope you are backing up frequently, and checking your data integrity daily. "Ending" an Adagio module while it's posting is a very bad idea.

Hello Karen,

The ‘Posting Complete’ message may be hidden under the ‘Merging Transactions’ progress bar.

Try pressing the Enter key. If that does not work, click on the window title for Ledger to ensure that it is the active program and then press the Enter key again.

I am using Ledger V9.0

I just had it happen again. I suspect you are correct that the "posting complete" message is hidden under the merging transactions bar, as I can see a slight outline of another box behind it. I pressed the enter key and the "print posting journal" box appeared behind the "merging transactions" box. Pressed enter again and the message disappeared.

Is this a problem with my network card? Haven't had a problem with it, and it's relatively new. I back up all the time; however checking the data integrity is another story. Not done as frequently. Sorry Andrew, couldn't check in the task manager what was happening, because I followed the "click enter" instructions before checking.

If it's my card, I will get a new one. If it's something else that needs to be addressed, please let me know so I can look into it (have the proper person do that) immediately.

Best,
Karen

One of my clients had this problem until the installed the 20080122 service pack. They have not called back so I'm assuming it is not fixed.

Hi, Karen,

I'm curious. What version and dates of Ledger 9 are you using? From the main menu, select Help then About. The dates are in parenthesis to the right of the version.

It sounds like the posting completed properly. Doing a DIC is always recommended though.

If it happens again, as Andrew suggested, try checking your Task Manager.

If it's your NIC or something else on your network, you'd have to have your tech in to test those thoroughly.

Hello,

Version is 9.0A (080122)

Completed a data integrity check and it was fine. I will check my task manager when it happens again, and post what I find. I checked with our computer specialist and he thought our network card should be fine.

Hi, Karen,

Yes, definitely monitor this and what appears in your Task Manager as well if it happens again.

Am I correct that this is a random occurrance and does not occur on all batch posts? Is there anything 'common' that you can determine about the situation or what you were posting each of the times it happened that is common 'and' differs from the times it hasn't occurred? Open programs, single or multiple batch postings, printed a batch listing first or didn't ...?

Are you the only one using GL or does someone else in the office also? If someone else also, has it happened when they posted on their workstation?

Good Morning,

I am the only one using GL. It does not happen on all batch posts. I print batch listings first all the time, and have the option set that will not allow a post unless batch is printed.

I will be much more aware of my actions in GL, and will hopefully have more answers for you next time it happens. Thank you so much for taking such an interest in the problem!!

Hi Karen

I have had two clients report the same issue in the past two days, both of them I logged on and saw that there weren't crazy. One of them was creating and posting the year-end closing entry.

Softrak Support's reply from 2/7/08 way up above is the workaround - "click on the window title for Ledger to ensure that it is the active program and then press the Enter key"

Steve
