Dear Mary

More than anything, I would strongly suggest that you perform a data integrity check. If you have DataCare, use that - if not, then the WSM DIC will do.

Also note that if you restore data, you must be careful about files that already exist still being there - sometimes restoring data will not overwrite existing files (depends on how you do your backup/restore procedures) and this will cause other problems.

"File (unit) 14 cannot be opened" refers to a file that may have become unaccessable for some reason. Sometimes, just rebooting your workstation can resolve this, other times, it is to do with a network/server problem.

Problems like the ones you are describing are not usually due to a problem with the program, but are data-related.

You may need your Dealer to pay a visit to help you with the data integrity check - if there are errors detected the best thing you can do is get a Database Repair, as this way, you will know that you are starting off with good data.

If your Dealer cannot offer this service, we have a DBR department here...you can email: datarepair@softrak.com if you would like more information.

Good luck!

Hello again, Mary

Thank you for giving us more information - this definitely sheds some light on your data problems.

There seems to be files missing in your dataset (this is what the DIC is complaining about initially). This could be caused by doing "incremental" backups or by an incorrectly peformed "restore" process. An incremental backup will only backup some of the data files, rather than all of them. If an incomplete dataset was then restored, you would get these messages.

You really need to have this data looked at by a professional. You should not do any more processing in TBR and/or AR until this is done. If you do not have a Dealer who can assist you in this, then you can contact our Database Repair Department. They will provide you with a quotation of what it will cost to fix your data.

Once again, you can email: datarepair@softrak.com , or phone: (604) 736-3741 and ask for that department. They will ask you some questions and fax you documentation to fill out.

Regards,
Softrak Support
