If an item code exists on a receipt (or in transaction history, or other places) and the item is deleted, this will result in Data Integrity errors. Is this the scenario you are running into? If so, then you have to either add the item code back or delete the receipt to solve the DIC error.

There are 2 solutions:
1) Do not delete items that are still referenced in other places, such as (but not limited to) I/C Receipts and Transaction History, O/E Current and Historical Orders and Invoices, Adagio Invoices Batches or Historical Invoices, and SalesAnalysis Transactions. Instead, mark the item as Inactive and edit the Description to something like "Do not use".
2) Delete/purge all documents and transactions that reference this item. This is likely far less of an attractive solution as 1).
