Did you say that Adagio Ledger is installed locally on a number of PCs, rather than installed on a shared server? This very much may be the cause of your problem, because proper file locking is not guaranteed under this method of installation. Also, this configuration goes against the license agreement.
The proper installation is to have Adagio programs installed on the network, not on the local PC (unless there is only a single person who will ever use Adagio). All PCs that will use Adagio must perform a workstation setup while logged into Windows as their own user ID (and install privileges at least temporarily granted).
The error message you reported indicated that while trying to post a batch, they did not have full access to the Posted Transactions data file. When Adagio is installed correctly, it takes care of making sure that a process can correctly proceed before doing it.
