I've seen this error a couple of times with this file. In version 9.2B of Payables, file structure changed in a number of places, including the check number audit list file. This file gets converted to a slightly new layout in 9.2B, to support more information, and has not changed for a long time and may not have been purged for a long time.

In the cases where this error has occurred, there has been corruption in the file, and conversion fails. In both cases, there was a considerable chunk of records that were random ASCII characters, rather than just a character or two.

If you have GridView Read/Write, you could choose to create an inquiry on the check number audit list file, locate the bad rows, and delete them. It's likely that the corruption was well in the past. Otherwise, before you do the conversion to 9.2B, you would need to manually remove the APCAUD data file, open Payables at the 8.1F (or 9.2A) version to replace the missing file, then perform the conversion to 9.2B.
