Carolyn, you are correct that we don't think about the connection between display and printing.

That is because it has been around since the early days of Windows (and Mac). WYSIWYG was a big deal back then because, for the first time, printing did not rely on the fonts installed in the printer but allowed the operating system to download fonts to the printer as needed.
