What version and release date of Adagio Ledger are you using? You can find this information by selecting Help then About from the main Ledger menu.

I'm using the current release of Ledger 9.0C(100511) and, when I post an entry having the exact description and case as you requested, all characters print in both the Detail Listing and the Posting Journal.

Is it possible that you are typing your descriptions using all upper case letters? If so, this would explain why the description is truncated. There just isn't enough space to print all of the capitalized letters, which euse more space than do most lowercase letters.
