Hi Lester,

Tech Support is right, the SmartFinders in the latest releases of OrderEntry and Inventory are a lot faster. However, you can also improve the performance by making sure that your network is running at 1GBit or better. For the ultimate in performance, move everyone onto a Terminal Server so that the data is not continuously travelling over your network.

Also, you can improve the performance by making use of the differnt styles of searches that the Adagio SmartFinder offers. For example, "Contains" is faster (and more accurate) than "Sounds Like", as long as you are pretty sure about some string in the item description or customer name.

To see how much impact the network is having on performance, do identical SmartFinder searches on a local (drive C:) copy of your data and over the network. The network should not be more than 3 OR 4 times slower.

But these inquiries always beg the question - why are the customer/item codes not constructed so that a user can make a reasonable guess as to the customer/item code from some information they know? For example, customer codes should be alphanumeric, with 2 or 3 digits to break ties. Unless your industry has standardized item numbers, you should not be using your vendor part numbers for your own items.

The Toolkit for Adagio is a great tool for rationalizing your customer and item numbers. There's no reason to be saddled with a numbering scheme developed several decades ago that is not serving you well today.
