I would like to compare a specific revenue account to a related expense account. Example 7802 (revenue) to 8802 (expense) to show me the net between those two accounts. The revenue is in the 7000 range and expenses in the 8000 range and all the other digits match against each other.

Any ideas, other than creating a report that is hard coded with the account numbers?

Here's how you'd do that:
  • Place the revenue or expense account range in column "B" with ".Range" in Column A
  • Make column "C" have the account description
  • Use the formula
    Code:
    =-GLAMT("Y","7"&RIGHT($Bn,4))

    for the YTD revenue amounts.
  • Use the formula
    Code:
    =GLAMT("Y","8"&RIGHT($Bn,4))

    for the YTD expense amounts.
  • Do the math for the net revenue.

Make sense?

Yes, it makes sense. Just had to change the 4 to a 3 because I only have 4 digit accounts.
