Hi,

FIRSTLY
A client using QR 6.5a is suddenly receiving the error "Too many links in the file QRVLINKS.LD4" when they try to run a report they've run successfully many, many times before. This is happenning on several workstations they tried to run the report from.

The only thing I can think of that has been done recently, is that I loaded Adagio Ledger, Payables and Receivables onto the Server and two Workstations and gave them a demo linked to a Backup of there Live Data (which they loved by the way). Could this have caused any problems ?

SECONDLY
I recently read a posting which mentioned Plus with Win NT/2K and "autodisconnect". I'm aware of the "Opportunistic Locking" issues, but am not familiar with any issues to do with autodisconnect. Is this a registry issue as well ?

Regards, Pete

Hi Pete,

In Quik Reports, many Accpac Plus and 3rd party modules have a file that uses an index with 2 or more fields (such as Item number - Location code in IC). Sometimes those two fields are not found next to each other inthe data file, and in those cases a Virtual Link is required with Quik Reports. All of these virtual links are stored in the qrvlinks.ld4 file, which can be found in the \QRASP directory.

Quik Reports writes to this file for the Accpac Plus core modules, and 3rd party products write to it when they are installed. Because this is a simple text file, it is simply appended during an install. So if you have to re-install 3rd party products, you may get duplicate records in the QRVLINKS file.

In addition, there is a maximum number of links that can be contained in this file. With the current version (6.5A 001213 only), the maximum is 50. Previous versions of QR6.5A allowed 30. Earlier versions allowed only 20.

There are 2 possible solutions. One is to edit the QRVLINKS file with a text editor (Word, Notepad, etc), and manually remove all duplicate lines. Note that the line of text has to be exactly the same (including version numbers of programs, field names and numbers, etc) for you to be able to delete one (or more) duplicates.

The other solution - should you not be able to delete enough duplicate lines to make the error go away - would be to get the most recent version of Quik Reports.

I'm not aware that Adagio writes to the QRVLINKS file, though it's possible.

As far as your question about autodisconnect is concerned, is there a problem you are running into with a certain program?

NEW MESSAGE FROM PETE

Thanks a million for the prompt and useful reply. I chose the first option and removed the duplicate lines. My only addition to this method was that before attempting to edit the file, I backed it up first. Although we use 6.5a (991022) we probably won't upgrade unless there is some major reason. I'm pretty sure this client is going to move to Adagio and will prefer to spend the bucks there.

Question re QRVLINKS.LD4
I see lines in this file that begin with program codes and versions that we don't even use here and probably never will.(eg "QI62A", "JC61A", "QI61C") Could I delete these lines as well to free up more links that may really be required in the future ?

Re: Autodisconnect
I don't have any specific problems in this area. This was just something mentioned in another posting which seemed to be similar in nature to the Opportunisitic Locking Registry Issue that the ACCPAC Plus System Managers have on Windows NT/2000. I was just wondering if "Autodisconnect" was another registry setting that needed some tweaking and if so what were the issues associated with it.

Thanks again for solving the QR problem in such a timely manner.

Hello Bamph

Firstly, if you do not use QIP or JC, then yes, you can remove those lines. If in fact, you DO use them, but as you say, the versions do not match what you are using (ie you are using more current versions), you should leave them in. Current versions of QIP (6.5A-6.7A) still use V6.2A tables - they have not changed. This is also true of JC65A - the tables have not changed for this product since V61A. You CAN remove the lines referring to QI61C though.

Re: Autodisconnect
I do not think you have to worry about this as far as QR is concerned. This would likely have more to do with your ACCPAC WSM and/or settings in the properties of the Desktop Icon or however you start it up than any one particular module running under the WSM Start List.

Hope this helps
Regards,
