A client has decided to start using the Retainage feature.

They are in the construction business and they progress bill jobs.

When it comes time to bill out the retainage at the end of the job, there might be five progress bills. However, they want to create just one retainage invoice for the total of the retainage on the job.

I don't see a way to avoid having to create five separate invoices - this is not something they can send to their customer.

Does anyone have a solution or a workaround to this?

Thanks

Steve

Hi Steve,

The data structure for Adagio Invoices and Retainage Invoices only allows selecting a single invoice from the Totals tab. You are correct that there is a one-to-one relationship between Retainage Invoices and completing invoices with a retained amount.

Now that we agree I'm correct....

What's the solution? To add companies that do progress billing with retainage (which is almost all construction companies) to the list of industries for whom Adagio is not a good fit?

Or is there a workaround out there. I can't be the only one who has faced this issue.

Last year, this client decided to switch away from Adagio because a new controller came in and felt it wasn't a good fit for a construction company. I convinced management not to. This might be the issue that allows the controller to persuade management once and for all.

Would someone please respond with a solution so that I don't have to conclude that companies that want to use an accounting software package to do progress billing with retainage are not good candidates for Adagio?

Thanks

Steve:

It is what it is. Why is separate invoices per Retainage a problem? I understand that one invoice with a list of Retainage amounts would be much simpler and that we would like to deliver the solution our clients ask for but one of the drawbacks of all packaged software is the fact that sometimes compromises have to be made. If they switched software they may get all Retainage on one invoices but have to give out some of the other features that Adagio has (I'd suggest DS but that's not in JC yet)..

Hi Steve,

All of our remaining job shop/construction clients that still Adagio Job Costing, create separate invoices for each retainage release invoice. It's a one to one relationship. It works for the client invoicing and no one seems to have a problem with it but possibly because we simply explained that limitation as the only option.

The other part of the equation that you'll about to hit when you are discussing retainage with a client is that if you have invoices with retainage that you bill out (which is normal), you have to understand that Adagio has no retainage capability that feeds from Purchase Orders to Job Costing. Ie. In Adagio, you can bill for retainage but you can not purchase with retainage. It's a show stopper for potential JC sites.

Draw your own conclusions.

And we have made a solution with Gridview that works for queries into Job Costing that pulls the DocStore link from Accounts Payable. Still would like to see DocStore in Job Costing but a lower priority because we are losing potential sites and clients from Adagio Job Costing because of the inability to use Purchase Orders with Retainage.

Best,
Brian
