A number of clients have reported this over the years. If they don't catch it in time, they have to reversed the check run, reboot their computer (which somehow fixes the problem), and reprint all checks.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a real solution?

The latest client to complain is using 8.1F (140409)

It's likely that the MICR font is not permanently installed on the machine. Check "Install fonts" in Windows and make sure that the MICR fonts in the Payables Folder are installed.

I noticed that most of the time the .TTF files are not closed when exiting Payables. This has been the reason multiple times Payables upgrade has failed. The issue is only fixed if the users of Payables log off, or the files are closed on the server or the server is rebooted.
Can this be fixed?

The font handling was changed in Payables 9.2A. Are you seeing the files being left open there?

Not on our server any more.

Payables 92B (2016.11.07) has a Warning if the MICR files are missing:
Warning: Adagio MICR may not be loaded. Please inspect your cheques before approving this cheque run.

Hi Patricia,

The warning is generated if Adagio Payables detects that the MICR font is not loaded in memory, whether or not the Font files are available on the machine (which it sometimes can). In that case, Windows tries (unsuccessfully) to do a font substitution for the missing MICR font.

Generally, this is why a reboot of the workstation solves the problem.
