I have not seen this before.

A client called and claimed that when he clicks on the Excel Direct button, nothing happens. Nothing bad, but nothing good. Just nothing!

I know that it has been working in the past, probably for many years.

They are running Excel 2010.

Any suggestions what might have caused this, and how to make it active again?

My issue is that from IC, when we click the excel Icon, nothing happens. On top of that, when we attempt to import items into IC, we get this pop-up.
Now, when I try the same thing on another PC, which also has Office 2013, it works just fine.
Out of 6 workstations, only one is having this issue.

Thanks

I am having the same issue. We upgraded from XP with Excel 2000 to Win 7 Pro with Excel 2010 last week and now when I try to click the Excel button, I am getting the error: Failed to connect to Excel.

The link above doesn't work, we are getting access denied. Any help would be useful, before the hordes of Excel loving users can't export their reports.

Here is the information from the Link:
Quote:

I encountered this with another site this week (i.e. they upgraded, not installed new, from Office 20xx to 2013). What caused their ExcelDirect button to stop working was that their registry was not properly updated by that upgrade.

In short, what I would suggest people do to rectify this problem is to:

- determine the exact path that Excel is being run from

- make sure that rights is not the issue (open Adagio using Run as Administrator and determine if the problem still exists)

- if rights is not an issue, open the registry, collapse all trees and Edit | Find, excel.application

- you may have to F3 several times before you locate a LocalServer folder, which may be preceded by an InprocServer32 folder and/or followed by a LocalServer32 folder. There may also just be a LocalServer folder

- make sure the path in (Default) in the LocalServer folder and, if exists, the LocalServer32 folder is the 'correct' path to where the Excel.exe is located.

While using the [ComputerName]-CSVViewer= command is a solution to obtain an export, it produces an unformatted export. For someone not using Excel, this might be fine. However, for someone using Excel (most sites), I'm not convinced it would be satisfactory and editing the registry would be the better approach.

If you are not comfortable inspecting or editing the registry, you may want your Adagio Consultant to assist.

We will add this information to the Technical Tip document in the coming weeks.

Hi, Carl,

The information found on the link above is great if you are wanting to send the ExcelDirect output to another program (eg. Open Office) or CSV than Excel.

If you're wanting to send the ExcelDirect output to Excel after having recently upgraded your Excel, you are probably experiencing a problem with Microsoft's registry entries.

You might want to contact your Adagio dealer/consultant about this.

The regedit solution worked for me, there was no Excel path in the default field.

Thanks

Andrew:

Thanks for updating this document. How come there is no mention of Office 365?
